Edsger Wybe Dijkstra (11 May 1930 – 6 August 2002) was a Dutch computer scientist.[1] He received the 1972 Turing Award for fundamental contributions to developing programming languages, and was the Schlumberger Centennial Chair of Computer Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin from 1984 until 2000.

Shortly before his death in 2002, he received the ACM PODC Influential Paper Award in distributed computing for his work on self-stabilization of program computation. This annual award was renamed the Dijkstra Prize the following year, in his honor.

In this video he talks about programming and where it went wrong and why.

Edsger W. Dijkstra decries modern SW engineering practice "You just cobble something together to sell. It needn't be any good. As long as you can fool people into buying it. You can always try to make better versions later"

If it's any consolation Beats, I probably would've done the same thing with Bonnaroo or 75% of other big fests.

I'm not sure it can be an official iTunes Fest though unless Bono is walking about trying to get individual crowd members to sign a petition, at least if he truly cares about Apple :P

I'd be kind of curious to see if he would do a guitar solo and how worthy it would be, not necassarily technically proficient, but just how much he put into it. He probably puts on a decent show.

Yeh nice one. Good to see and hear positive things are still happening over there in the us. The guy with the guitar and the blue shirt was cool too.

Kravitz is a nice guy.

There is a similar one where Jonathan Richman is walking into a crowd down the street and starts dancing and singing, but can't find anymore.

not this one, but this one is cool too, egyptian reggae.

ps. kravitz is "my" generation, he's one year older than me.

Anybody know if Fusion drives are still having issues with music software? I think its going to be time to replace my iMac with a Mini in the next year and SSDs are still stupid expensive if I get it from Apple.

1TB Fusion drive = $200
256GB SSD = also $200 :x

But I suppose another option is to get the base model and then get a SSD cheaper from a third party and have it installed.

With music software like Logic Pro X, Omnisphere, and Komplete Ultimate a 1TB internal drive is becoming like a minimum pushing it requirement.

I posted this in another thread but it also belongs here.

Sector

http://kymatica.com/Software/Sector

Another fun tool to play with. The demo video doesn’t really do it justice because it makes it look like a big glitch and chaos machine, and it can be, but it doesn’t have to be.

Basically drop in an audio loop and it chops it into 16 slices (or more or less). Then on each slice you can have it jump to any number of other slices in the loop as it plays and adjust the probability of which it will jump to or have it random.

To make it less chaotic you can also use the step sequencer to make sure it will always hit certain slices, like kick or snare, when you want them to in the pattern.

You can also assign a glitch, noise, or reverse effect to each slice and adjust the probability of how often that effect will happen when it hits that slice.

EPIC!

If you have like 10 minutes to kill use something like the DM1 drum machine app to create a drum pattern and then audio copy/paste it into Sector.

Deadmau5 is the opener for the iTunes music festival. :)

Others I want to check out: Beck, Calvin Harris, Robert Plant, Lenny Kravitz...and that's about it this year.

Prince has finally given up his battle against the dead fad that is the internet and is now selling his music on iTunes. 8O

Never thought of Homekit integration with a watch. That makes a lot more convenience sense to change something like lighting, music, room temperature, or open your garage with a watch device instead of having to pull your phone out of your pocket. I’m intrigued. 8O

Wow, that's kind of crazy. Decent game, not one of my favorites and I didn't get all the hype, but definitely some cool moments.
