Re: iPad
Pretty sure if iPads were made in Cali they'd be put together by illegals, or most other states I'm sure.
I'd definitely like to see more production in the US, as long as the quality is high.
I'm not saying illegals doing assembly has any correlation with quality though.
Also I think any company explicitly picking on another one as part of their marketing strategy is immature and that's generally the kind of mentality that shouldn't be enabled. Not because of sensitivity, but just class.
The last thing we need is more us vs then black vs white bs adding to what's already clogging the human pscyhe.
Speaking of Cali I was at the DMV to get my DL this morning and at 9:11 they had a minute of silence.
Fortunately I had beans'n'rice for dinner last night but I didn't have the balls to let one rip when it would have counted the most. I suppose if I did do it and everyone looked at me I could've said 'It never happened'

It’s rare that I take your side on these issues, but I remember seeing something on a “woman who lost it all!”. Prior to losing it all she was a single mom supporting 2 kids (or maybe it was 3) in a nice 2 story house and took several far distance vacation trips a year. Surely she lost some upper management or executive position, right? No. She drove a forklift around a yard all day.
I’ve had a job where I drove a forklift (for part of the day) and let me tell you, I never even thought such financial extravagance was possible doing that job. When I had that job it was all about not paying utilities until they threatened to shut shit off.
Point being if manufacturing and blue collar jobs return to the US it’s not going to be these people living high off the hog again. It’s gone from the US based high extreme to the low off-shore-that-shit extreme. We’ll see if they are just happy to be working again or if they will be pissed that they can’t buy twin Sea-Doos on their new salary.

BMW car production in Leipzig Germany:

And yes, that wouldnt give jobs for 20,000 directly.
But the construction of machines for such a factory would give. And eventually some iron or valve factory in Ferguson would benefit from it too.
I'm talking benefits at a collective national level.
Also you wont have to ship from far away. (costs of distribution).
Mwah, would be a complex calculation.
I know.

Intel and ASML Reach Agreements to Accelerate Key Next-Generation Semiconductor Manufacturing Technologies
PDF 16.3 KB
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
Intel commits €829 million (approximately $1.0 billion) to ASML's research and development programs to help accelerate deployment of new technologies for 450-millimeter (mm) wafers and extreme ultra-violet (EUV) lithography by as much as two years
Intel to also initially purchase 10 percent of pre-transaction issued shares of ASML for €1.7 billion (approximately $2.1 billion) and commit to purchase an additional 5 percent of post-transaction issued shares as part of ASML's program to enable minority investments of up to a 25 percent equity stake to its largest customers
R&D funding and equity investment agreements totaling €3.3 billion (approximately $4.1 billion)
Continued research and development in the field of lithography is critical to the long-term growth of the semiconductor industry
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Intel Corporation today announced it has entered into a series of agreements with ASML Holding N.V. intended to accelerate the development of 450-millimeter (mm) wafer technology and extreme ultra-violet (EUV) lithography totaling €3.3 billion (approximately $4.1 billion). The objective is to shorten the schedule for deploying the lithography equipment supporting these technologies by as much as two years, resulting in significant cost savings and other productivity improvements for semiconductor manufacturers.
To achieve this, Intel is participating in a multi-party development program that includes a cash contribution by Intel to fund relevant ASML research and development (R&D) efforts as well as equity investments in ASML. The first phase of this program consists of Intel committing to R&D funding of €553 million (approximately $680 million) to assist ASML in accelerating the development and delivery of 450-mm manufacturing tools, as well as an equity investment of €1.7 billion (approximately $2.1 billion) for approximately 10 percent of ASML's pre-transaction issued shares. Intel will record the R&D investment as a combination of R&D expense and pre-payments on future tool deliveries.
The second phase of the program is conditioned upon ASML shareholder approval. It includes an additional commitment by Intel of R&D funding of €276 million (approximately $340 million) in ASML focused on accelerating EUV, as well as an equity investment of €838 million (approximately $1.0 billion) for an additional 5 percent of ASML post-transaction issued shares.
Intel will then hold a total of 15 percent of ASML's issued shares. The total equity investment will be €2.5 billion (approximately $3.1 billion). As part of these agreements, Intel is also committing to advanced purchase orders for 450-mm and EUV development and production tools from ASML.
Both phases of the program are subject to standard closing conditions, including customary regulatory approvals. The companies expect both phases of the transaction to close after the shareholder vote in the third quarter.
ASML is a dutch company, 50 miles from where i live. They make machines to produce computer chips.

My dissertation is on analysis of electroacoustic music, and yes I'm making progress.
I am interested in neo-Riemannian theory, though. Tonnetz FTW!

had to look that one up. interesting. i stopped studying theory of music. i studied works by schoenberg and fuchs and salzer.stringtapper wrote:Tonnetz FTW!
i wont use in making music, only to analyse afterwards.

Anybody else think the Apple Watch was rushed to announcement because Cook promised early on big things before the end of this year? If you don’t think that, you fucking should!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Apple announce anything that had such a far out release date and I wonder if it was like the infamous (to those obsessed with Apple) iPhone 1 keynote where everybody involved was sweating bullets because it wasn’t ready for primetime and there was a level of fakery in the demo that people weren’t sure would work.

All the "hands on" reviews I've seen mention they are not allowed to touch it, and when they asked about battery life the question was brushed away.
Something fishy there.
http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/09/iwatch-hands-on/Unfortunately, Apple wouldn't let me actually interact with the Watch's UI, as the demo units were simply rolling through screenshots while it was strapped to my wrist
Re: iPad
you know they rushed it... they don't even have the "i" in front of "Watch". ffs!
that wasn't planned!
right now someone is moving out of their $3600 a month one bedroom apartment in San Francisco over that that little fuck up

http://www.cultofmac.com/295055/apple-w ... aterproof/....Apple told him that its watch is “water resistant,” not waterproof. “Sweating, wearing it in the rain, washing your hands, or cooking with it is fine. Take it off before the swim or get in the shower, though.”
That’s a major bummer for those hoping to use the watch’s fitness tracking abilities in the water. It also means you’ll have to take it off every time you hop in the shower.
