Re: iPad
I don't think realistically it could be waterproof, which is exactly the wow factor Apple should've gunned for, it's what should be expected. That would merit cheers, pants-shitting and smugness. Of course how quickly people easily forget and instead distort their memories of something great into lowered expectations so to not be disappointed when the reveal comes. Any excuse to believe in a symbol that won't disappoint so acts of ape-shit are acceptable is more important than the reality. The underlying complex of any fanboi:)
And beats since you accepted my redaction I hope you don't think I'm talking about you whenever I'm knocking the Applites; for some reason I haven't thought of you like that even if all signs point to yes. Well at least I'm not trying to knock you personally. Really I just want anything to aim high and not be blinded by illusions or expectations. To me Steve was Apple, and even then I didn't find his aesthetic profound. The fact that only one company could get simplicity, design and engineering so right after so long is more of a disappointing aspect of humanity than any kind of 'genius'. At the same time, the supposed eastern principles should be taken more seriously in any culture and not seen as some foreign exotic paradigm. The Tao is universal, and I mean to the core universal. The fact that it's still seen as some hokey mystical superstition in the West is a cosmic facepalm.

Re: iPad
I read an old article about how Apple managed shock the world with the early iPhones and then dominate with them - because Jobs aimed to produce products which were at least 2 years ahead of the competition, so competitors couldn't catch up. And not only that, but the strategy was to monopolise the specialised parts pipelines so competitors would struggle to even source the parts to copy the innovations. Nobody had a capacitive touch screen smartphone. And nobody came close to competing for three years after it was first introduced. They were that far ahead.
Compare that to the new products such as Apple Watch. It's not ready yet, probably wont be until Q2 2015, and it's effectively just the same as any other smartwatch. Is it even any better? Internal apple staff have said that the battery life is "very disappointing" and lasts less than a day.
Does it bring anything groundbreaking to the table. Is it 2 years ahead of rivals? Lets compare it to a product you can buy today -

Well, that doesn't bode well.
Likewise the iPhone 6. I was expecting something amazing after the slightly dull and unimpressive 5 and 5s. But yet again - it's just another anonymous slab.
of course - as Steve Jobs himself said in an internal email in 2011
tl;dr I wont be buying an iPhone 6 or an Apple Watch. they don't have anything for me. Even my super die-hard Apple GF isn't bothering to upgrade her 5, and she was hanging on for this announcement.

the last gasp is to "lock customers into our ecosystem" . But what if we value connecting OUTSIDE of that ecosystem. What if the ecosystem starts to look weak and also-ran. Then the lock-in starts to look a lot less palatable.– Apple is in danger of hanging on to old paradigm too long (innovator’s dilemma)
– Google and Microsoft are further along on the technology, but haven’t quite figured it out yet
– tie all of our products together, so we further lock customers into our ecosystem

Re: iPad
As far as the watch is concerned they announced three types, regular a custom and an athletic model. It stands to reason that the athletic model will be waterproof. If not the first generation then a guarantee that the next will be.
I'm mainly disappointed that you can't Face Time with the watch!!
I though for sure Apple would do this and get all of us who remember Dick tracey's two way radio TV watch to buy one for that reason alone!
I am thinking of getting the huge iPhone. as it's only a little small than the iPad Mini and I have yet to get an iPad. <-- Two birds one stone. Have to see one in person though.

Re: iPad
With a watch that has a 'crown' I'm surprised they didn't name the versions 'tall', 'grande' and 'venti'
Re: iPad
I think it'd be nice to have a standardized 'gaming controller' setup for the phones.
It seemed they were pretty on board with the progression of gaming on their devices. Portable devices strictly for gaming are holding on just barely with two advantages. Tactility, and hardware copies of games available at stores. Now that some companies are more commited than ever to crack the mobile gaming market, the field is really leveling out (with an advantage for a device that you keep in your pocket at all times incase mummy calls)

So after about a half hour of playing the refresh game at midnight with no success I finally got my iPhone 6 ordered (by going to the AT&T) site.
Got an order confirmation date but not a ship/delivery date confirmation. Word on the street is the 6 Plus model is already getting pushed to a month out for delivery but just the 6 is good on the release date arrival. I ordered the 128G drive model because of the doomsday discontinuation of the iPod Classic. Hopefully that also increases my chances of a release day delivery because I think most people ordered a 64G or 16G model.
However, I’m having it shipped to my work and I have that day scheduled off work. I trust my coworkers more than the office people at my apartment complex. So I may have to do my 32 mile commute to my work on my day off just to get my phone.
Had no other plans for that day anyway. My actual plans are for the Wednesday and Thursday before so why not take Friday off too.

No worries. Whenever Apple makes an announcement I never (to my knowledge) go in with any “it better have this, goddamnit!!” expectations. So it’s all good to great news to me.
But it’s still good to have those “better have this, goddamnit!!” people because it pushes Apple, larger screens as an obvious example. But those people need to learn to also let shit go, like with SD card slots. Never going to happen at this point. Fucking drop it already. Then you have people concerned about shit like how much RAM is in an idevice despite the fact that component specs having NEVER been a bottleneck to performance for at least several generations forward. Let. It. Go. Fuckers.
Re: iPad
RAM in iPads is a huge limitation right now actually, especially for music making. Ok, maybe not huge, but something you need to pay attention to quite often,

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Apple announce anything that had such a far out release date and I wonder if it was like the infamous (to those obsessed with Apple) iPhone 1 keynote where everybody involved was sweating bullets because it wasn’t ready for primetime and there was a level of fakery in the demo that people weren’t sure would work.
All the "hands on" reviews I've seen mention they are not allowed to touch it, and when they asked about battery life the question was brushed away.
Something fishy there.
http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/09/iwatch-hands-on/Unfortunately, Apple wouldn't let me actually interact with the Watch's UI, as the demo units were simply rolling through screenshots while it was strapped to my wrist
Another telltale sign of poor battery life is no mention of sleep tracking which is a common (but useless) feature of health tracking bracelets. That tells us you are going to need to charge it overnight.

you may have me there. But I guarantee 112% of the people bitching about this are people who just like reading numbers with no regard to actual performance.
And these same assholes will laugh off 64bit as completely meaningless.

jack johnson wrote:Yep. I'm one of those (well, I used to be until this morning) that says " I HAVE TO HAVE IT". But, no worries anymore.
I called AT&T ( i don't know why) yesterday afternoon to ask when i can jump online and PREORDER. The girl said 12 EASTERN. Eastern she said. WRONG. it was 12 PACIFIC.
so....it was 12 Midnight. APPLE site will be right back. AT&T site still says COMING SOON. it became 12:30 with no change. 1:00 no change.....fell asleep.
woke up, jumped right back to where I left off.........now the IPHONE 6 PLUS is NOT AVAILABLE.
I AM SAD and I'm gonna sit here and pout and make myself a BLOODY MARY.
While I was in the middle of my refreshathon I also went to the macrumors forum which was also down because of heavy traffic from people wanting to post WTF!!!!!
Eventually it went back up and of course sprinkled throughout the WTF! posts where the “no problems here” posts.
Re: iPad
jack johnson wrote:I wonder if AT&T will have any available in the actual shop on the 19th?
What's the odds of me walking in and they have some in store?
Roll of the dice, different variables to consider like how tech heavy and populated the area of the store is. I’m sure not every AT&T store gets the same inventory count. Every year people are able to just waltz right into a carrier or Best Buy store and walk out with one in 10 minutes on release day. Other stores are just as bad as an Apple store.
Re: iPad
I got another email notification!
From my bank informing about unusual card activity as a result of my preorder and I had to go to the bank site and approve it.
I think I did it right. I guess I’ll find out if I get a notice from AT&T saying my card was declined.
Ironically on my bank’s home page front and center is the announcement of Apple Pay coming.

Re: iPad
Rolling out U2 on the stage was unnecessary, sad, and a real buzzkill ending to an Apple keynote. I’m sure the “this sucks” feeling in the room was mutual for both U2 and the audience.
Cook said they’ve won the most Grammys of any artist ever. Really? I guess that’s a lot of years of Best Artist/Song/Album In A Genre Nobody Is Listening To Anymore awards.
