My iPhone 6 battery life sucks. I’m not using it any more or less than my 5 and by the end of the work day the 5 might be down to 85% at worst with heavy usage. My 6 drops to about 60% or lower with light usage. All I’ve done today is check a few texts and responded to 1 text and it’s already down to 89% from a full charge.
I’ve checked the supposed magical new energy monitoring/saving feature that tells you what is draining the most energy but there is nothing out of the norm at all. Nothing I could turn off or use less.

welcome to a bigger screen

Besides the screen, GPS is the probably the biggest resource piggy. Especially if you use a map from "my current location" as that will update your travel options to the destination indefinitely until you close the map app.
Another known piggy is the search for wifi networks. This doesn't seem to be an issue with iPhones I've had, but maybe it is on the 6.

Hopefully iOS 8.1 coming out Monday will fix this. I also notice slightly worse battery life on my iPad Air along with wifi connection/lag problems and videos not being able to play sporadically.

8.1 is probably only going to stop you from using game emulators on in jail broken phones by setting the date back to 1995.

But yeah, each iOS update usually includes something to block jail breaking or make it difficult….which gets hacked about 10 minutes after release.

Yeah I'm posting from my phone so spell check got me ("in jail broken" should have read "unjailbroken")... the emulators work (for now) on phones that aren't jail broken...

The speech to text has been working pretty well here I've been speaking the last few posts here and just making minor corrections, mostly just punctuation.

If I attempted speech to text my iPhone 6 battery would drop 10% after 2 sentences. You should totally get one.

Weird. Maybe the battery needs more time to be broken in?

probably should put it in the microwave for a few minutes for best results.

maybe it's the new U2 album!

New Mac Minis show decreased multi-core performance.
3rd tier (non customized) 27” iMac is the same price as the base 27” 5k display iMac with the same specs other than the screen. So you might as well go with the 5k…
Except you can’t use the 5k screen as an external monitor.
So no matter how you look at it you’re going to be sacrificing something for a lot of money, especially if you’re trying to plan a cheaper future upgrade path.

Is there any real point to a 5K display if you aren’t doing high end video or photo editing? I could get a standard screen iMac (which still looks awesome) with a 3TB drive for cheaper than the base 5K iMac with a 1TB drive. I think I would get far more use out of a larger drive than a 5k screen.
Sounds like the new Mac Minis are a waste of money and just about everybody is saying to get the previous generation if possible.
I’m not going to run out and get a new Mac tomorrow but it’s possible in the next year and I’m not happy about what Apple just tossed out on their new lineup. If you are even marginally a power user (music production counts) then their cheaper models aren’t attractive for any kind of future proofing.
