I guess he wanted to say something smart and idiomatic in english and put it in the google "english into italian" translator... very odd. American people behave like this: they believe people outside U.S. understand what they say... don't even realize people outside U.S. completely ignore their movies, slang, tv shows, performers, comedians, jokes, popstars etc.

yes, fundamentally at least 50% of italians are like the way you describe italians. I guess it is partly a consequence of fascism, but not only. The rest are brainwashed by the church. Italy is a very corrupted country. I am, I guess... 1% or such.

Seems you don't underatand the meaning of "brainwashed" by me intended. It means "panem et circenses": the state must control anger and discontent in some way. In Italy there are things like the church, the football, erotic women etc. In the U.S. people are scared by the state (9/11, evil terrorists and such crap) and/or brainwashed by patriotic cheesy movies, popsars, superheroes, flags, anthems and similar bullshit. Then they visit the country and discover that actually, the vast majority of people everywhere in the world don't wish harm on other nations, they just want to live their lives without being shat on or shitting on others.
