Just to compare my two PCs I ran the test on my 3-years-old laptop

1. Ableton Live CPU Meter: 180%
2. Laptop: Packard Bell something
3. OS: Win XP SP3
4. Ableton Live version: 8.0.1
5. CPU Make, Model, and Speed: Intel Pentium M 1.73Ghz
6. Amount of RAM: 2 GB
7. Soundcard: Internal HD chip with ASIO4All
8. Hard Disk Drive Speed: 5400 RPM
9. Number of playback tracks: all 8

6) Amount of Ram? 4 GB DDR2 OcZ with the big obnouxious heatsinks!!
7) Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? PreSonus Firestudio Project:
with pyro PCiE card and stock 400 cable.. stock asio..
8) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)? WD Raptor 10,000 74gb is where ableton
and this performance test were installed. Typically run samples/audio off 7,200
9) Number of playback tracks? all 8!

I don't get why it crashes so much then? Anyone think getting an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Wolfdale 3.33GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W would help?? Maybe its the fact that I'm useing onboard graphics? Its based on Nvidia GeForce 9400 chipset? Maybe its some of my shotty plugins??

Thats a 5% drop on Vista X64 on the same system

same with 6 tracks: 74% CPU
with 4 tracks 60%
with 2 tracks 49%

and now the magic trick...turn coolbook to CPU overload 3... ta ta..

8 tracks with 52%

weird... @ 24 tracks it doesnt seem to handle it very well. at least not what I expect it to after how it did 8 and 16 tracks

Have to say im very very dissapointed...this is a brand new machine with pretty much nothing installed on it but ableton...i just moved from running a pc with cracked ableton and now i upgrade and buy live 8 and this is the performance....

Is there anyway i can optimise my system?? am i doing something wrong here??
there are macbooks here with lesser specs and still performing better than this...SERIOUSLY WTF :evil:

i think u need to get some things clarified....are u even on a mac???
In anycase im updating to 10.5.7 to see if it makes a diff,,,,,
