Interesting.. Who is he  ?

this one gave us some pretty decent Googlish

that's him... the father of logic audio, the environment was so ahead it's time for example... the list goes on...

he is widely respected as being one of those very rare über-programmers on this planet.

:D We'd have to kidnap someone from the Abes HQ also. A cleaner or someone like .. hmm Dom :) ? And then do some 'temporary' brain transplant.. Send them back in and wait for the update!!

Ok now I'm going off on one!

because no one gives a shit about a box, but we do give a shit about how well you can work with the product without creeping up the walls and screaming every 20 minutes. and not needing to buy every 6 month the newest super duper computer in order to work in peace and without a dozen flattening, resampling, freezing or any other highly annoying workarounds.

i mean i just do work on a new track, 13 channels midi and audio, all instruments are AAS and impulse (Live's and the original AAS tassman) except crystal, a few efx, very few and reaktor as a reverb on a return... and it jumps around 55% and is on the edge to choke... WTF?
and i am pretty good in using 'clever' CPU saving routing for my efx already...

tell me that this is not mediocre???

on a 2.16ghz 4gb ram c2d machine...

if you think this is cool, then i don't know.
Word!

However no-ones said how ugly the Logic GUI is either!

Man I really hope the Abes can get this sorted..

I think it seems to be Lives handling of 3rd party plugins that cripple my CPU.. I haven't got any other DAW to try though to make any real comparison..

I've been seriously thinking of selling all my 3rd party stuff and working purely within Live.. It's becoming a question for me as to what I love/like/need more.. Lives beautiful workflow and creative ease or the sonic possibilities and variations that 3rd party plugs offer, not to mention the added benefits of what Logic has editing wise :?

Hd
I accidently sold my Live License last year(long story). At the time I was certain that Logic Studio would solve my problems. You know what? I miss Live and I am even considering selling my monome to get it back! I say ditch the 3rd party plugins. Live's plugins are great and just wait for M4L. That alone, is the only synth/efx processer I will ever need :)

Unfortunately (for me) Logic has moved away from being a modular daw with killer midi editing to being a more conventional tool for non electronic music artists. I don't even know when they last updated environment. M4L will make logic environment look like a joke this fall.

Live 8 does get pretty sluggish on me from time to time, as track counts begin to go up... EVEN when using only the built-in effects... and the CPU meter doesn't seem to be going above the higher teens/lower twenties.

Inaccurate CPU meter perhaps?

Logic has always been rock solid for me. I'm definitely getting the new Logic Studio, as soon as my finances allow.

hi,

I'm interested in complimenting live with a "real" DAW for midi and audio editing and final mixing stage. (I think powerful midi tools are really missing in live, as for a real mixing console available in dual screen mode, with a better arrangement view...)

I had an eye on digital performer 6, and it seems I'll need at least one year to get used to it. (where am I? where do I begin? what is this window? what is an audio bite? where do I create a midi track, and how... etc, etc.)

do you guys think learning Logic is as hard as learning DP when coming from live ?

and what do you think about the midi tools in logic? better than live's? (couldn't be worst ;) )

I'll check apple.com for this release.

cheers

i still love logic for mixing and midi as well, not for writing stuff, though...

Logic is a beast to learn (it's just so powerful that i still learn stuff about it even after several years of using... that certainly does not happen with live, which can be an advantage, depends on how you look at it!), but well, well worth it IMO.

Since Logic 8 came out I think it's really easy to learn personally. I think Logic gets a bad rap for being difficult to get into, but that seems to be a holdover from much earlier versions. If you want to get DEEP into the app, yes of course that would take time and a willingness to learn. But just to get up and running and writing some music it's very easy these days.

just don't forget that people like you and me and other old logic users have been already familiar into depth, so yes i agree in that case it feels like a breathe since 8, just saying...

same with live, when i started with Live 5 i did not needed any manual whatsoever, because it is so easy... yeah when you come from logic, like me and if you are generally an experienced DAW user... a beginner still needs the manual...

but anyway, in my books anyone owning a mac and having the budget for Logic... it's a 100% no brainer actually... should get it.

it's a complete different beast compared to live (it's completely stupid to compare them... anyway) and i would not like to miss either of them...

well I guess I knew the answer to my (quite stupid) question... no professionnal software is easy to learn...

EDIT:

well Tarekith, I think I don't need to get really deep in the DAW I'd like to get. I need to understand the mixing console and FX sends/return busses, and the midi edition abilities. (programming a bassline with multiple midi parameters automations in live is still for me a major pain because of the lack of midi tools -pencils and curves, multiple automation windows per track/clip...)

I tested Cubase vst that I found relatively clear and useful.
I tested Digital performer 6 taht I found particularly difficult to understand without passing hours and hours, but that seem really powerful

I never used logic.

I guess I'll wait and see ;)

cheers

I used to think that I would want to use both DAWs as well. However, I'm getting tired of trying to come up with workflow strategies to make two DAWs work. I think at some point, for me anyways, you have to just pick one and use it. I'm sticking with Live only.
