really?
thanks for the heads up. maybe post a feature request on the maschine forum.
NI are extremely good at communicating with the maschine users and have already implemented changes
based on user requests.

i really recommend trying the 1.5 beta - it's very stable (no crashes here) and it is insanely good with ableton live now.
its probably not a good idea if you're working on anything important though.

i wish the damn play button on the controller would start/stop the ableton sequencer when in plugin mode though....

Can you comment on anything specific in 1.5 that makes it better when used with Live ?

well, the big thing for me is midi drag & drop.
i use maschine standalone to sketch out all my ideas (beats, bass, synths, chopped up samples) - then you simply d&d straight into ableton to arrange. in fact the new sample chopping facilities are really good and inspire a lot of ideas.

the ableton sequencer is way better for arranging than the inbuilt maschine one in my opinion.
you can set up all 16 sounds in each of the 8 groups to play on different midi channels in live. if you need more, you can just add a new maschine instance to get another 16 x 8.
the best bit of all this (for me) is to be able to use the fantastic ableton groove facilities on your midi as well as vst effects.
i dabble with house music and the grooves work absolute wonders to my existing beats (as well as 'the glue' compressor which is insanely good).

1.5 has a default template feature. You can save different defaults for plugin and standlone modes.

how are you guys for the cpu hit with live and maschine??

im at about 40 to 55 percent here

will this go down if i update osx to 10.5 and maschine to 1.5?

so far its no problem cause i sketch out everything in machine then open it up in live and drag and drop audio into session view

Are you sure you don't have anything else running? I'm at 9 to 10 percent on a 2.4Ghz MBP on OSX 10.5

It completely depends on what you have loaded up in Maschine. It's a bit like one person saying 'Ableton Live is running at 80% cpu on my computer' and someone else saying "Ableton's only using 20% on mine'.

There are 8 different groups to work with. You can use Maschine for anything from a single drum kit as a plug-in, to pretty much an entire songs-worth of instruments and effects. Using only one or two groups and not too many effects will be very light. Use lots of effects and you'll see cpu rising. For delicioso, it's not surprising that you're getting high cpu since it sounds like you're doing a lot of the song composition in Maschine, as opposed to just using it for a drum kit.

You'll need to update to at least 10.5 to use 1.5- that's Leopard and above only.

Drag and drop that's all you had to say. I haven't used Live since getting Maschine but it looks like that's about to change :)

yes YeS YES :x I know you can have control over the play button when you switch to the "Ableton template" via shift control, however I have no real reason to jump into the Ableton template since I run a LP already...Oh well--If anybody has found a work around for this please share--

My one big wish with this right now though is that when you're slicing a loop to a sound, it would let you apply the sliced loop's midi notes to the same pattern you're currently on. It always applies to the next available one and you have to copy the pattern back to the pattern you were on. I really don't see the point in that at all.

I didn't try, but you could perhap's:

-assign each 16th pad of each group to the same midi note/midi channel output
-then with a 3rd party application, re-route this signal to ableton live,
-map this midi note/midi channel to the play stop button in live...

3rd party application, dunno, there are some great free midi routers for both macs and pcs (bomes midi translator, midiyoke...)

you could also use the spacebar...

but indeed that would be great to use the default play/stop button of the controller to play/stop the DAW...

cheers
