Sorry for blowing your mind. Nobody is forcing you to reinstall everything, but it could make your system to run a bit fasterH20nly wrote:rosti wrote:Windows machines can work great, but that requires a terrible amount of tweaking and optimizing. Making and backup image of your HDD after installing everything (and not connecting to the internets in between) is wise becouse you have to install everything all over again after 6 months of use.OMG! Don't tell my boss!! We have over 200 computers that have been running for years... I better get someone to start helping me install everything all over again.... STAT.

My two desktops at home have been going for 4 years and 2 years.... should I reinstall everything 8 times on the first one and 4 times on the latter so I can get caught up?
no time to wait for answers...

Re: The Mac vs. PC thread
lol. Been using my Dell Precision 690 w/ XP Pro for nearly 4 years now with no problems whatsoever. Love it. Except for the missing system tray icons that nobody in the fucking world seems to know how to fix when they vanish, hah!
Also love my MacBook. Problem free for 3 1/2 years.
Woohoo! Happy user of both platforms! Suck it, bitches! (bitches meaning....um...whoever, lol)

Smoking can void your varranty.I wonder if grocery smoke voids them too..
Fortunately I have come up with a solution that I am marketing (3 easy payments) to help all you poor Mac lovers that use you machines to perform live:

New Colors Coming Soon!!
Green (for St. Patty's day)
&
Clear (in case you need to adjust an LFO)

The way corporations keep their Windows machines clean is to not upgrade anything Microsoft for years and years and also not allow the individual users to do so themselves.H20nly wrote:

I'm no expert on Microsoft releases but I know the server we use on our terminals is 2003 and over the last year when I visit sites I'm getting more and more pop-ups saying the version of IE I'm using is no longer supported to the point that the messages even include smartass comments like "Did you know your version of IE is over 5 years old!? Might want to consider upgrading.", but IT won't let us.
Re: The Mac vs. PC thread
^ I.E. 6 yep... logging in as administrator and updating the browsers works wonders.
Server 2003 is still solid. Don't let the date fool you. I know you're in San Jose and all, but truthfully, having the latest and greatest is end user shit. Probably the biggest single factor keeping our computers at our office running is the Barracuda Web Filter. Anything that keeps most end users from the web is a good thing, even an outdated browser. I would have said 225 computers above but the 25 belong to doctors who ARE allowed to surf the web... yeah,
most of those could use a fresh install of the OS.

And if corporations were more Mac-centric it would probably be the same way as far as IT keeping a tight grip on everything so this probably isn't really a valid Mac vs. PC argument point.H20nly wrote:^ I.E. 6 yep... logging in as administrator and updating the browsers works wonders.

I dunno... Apple's idea of secure is to only allow you access to purchases through them. So as long as your users don't have credit cards all should be well.beats me wrote:And if corporations were more Mac-centric it would probably be the same way as far as IT keeping a tight grip on everything so this probably isn't really a valid Mac vs. PC argument point.
