@ OP: You should stick with Analog. It's really great.

Huge bass sounds check out Z3TA. Not sure if it's still availble for $20 or not. Sorry if anyones listed that already. I use Analog and Tal Uno 62 for most stuff and the Z3ta for mega huge layered synths and bass (6 oscilators I think) Z3ta has a large range of presets that cover a broad scope if you are new to synthesis. Check out the demo. I used to use it 5 years ago and have been missing it so bought it as so cheap and fills that gap with my synths (analog, operator, tals synths, m tron)

Camelcrusher's filter after Analog is good fun.

And the analogue vs digital debate is for idiots.

actually the analog interface is now beginning to grow on me!

Creating patches from the default preset can be simple if you just start with the modules that are active, i.e OSC1 settings and its amp. Get that right and then add more. Also for some reason I had overlooked the unison & vibrato.

My favorite Analog style plug-in is Poly-Ana. Like the PolyKB, it has a morphing waveform for all three Oscs, so it gradually modulate from Square to saw, sine etc.and in between. And it just sounds awesome. One of the few synths to really nail both smoothness and punchiness. Other than that, Massive is a beast. And although it's a lot more than just synths, Trialian has the meanest analog style bass synth sounds out there thanks to some really good sampling of vintage classics and modern Analogs, with great filters etc.

Yeah it might be a great synth but I can't get past the UI either... Kinda a blessing and a curse with Ableton, the consistent UI does keep things really neat and simple but sometimes it just gets in the way. For example, the browser flat out sucks. It takes a bunch of clicks, and even more scrolling to find your samples or efx.

I hate to revive an old thread but Analog is my favorite instrument so far. I was already familiar with subtractive synthesis due to hardware (not as familiar with FM synthesis) so maybe that's a reason. But, as far as I'm concerned, Analog nails the sound very well. I'm very happy with it.

Download Uhe TyrellN6 (free) and compare to Analog. Enough said.

As with any tool you have to spend time experimenting with it to start getting great results.

If you’re interested, there are a couple of great tutorials on Analog here:

Example of designing a lead synth in Analog (from our free Ableton Live course):

I hope these help you or anyone here.
