do you think we are really trying to get 3phase banned?

come on, you're not that daft.
Face it, you wouldn't be upset if your "funny" got 3phase banned.
so you think you know how i think/feel? you don't, so don't make assumptions.

This is getting fluffy, but no, you're the one defending calls to ban someone as a clever joke, and calling me daft for not thinking it funny, or much of a joke.
My point stands, the current moderator David doesn't have much of a sense of irony if you haven't noticed, so your "joke" can have consequences. Are you OK with those consequences?
If so, then is it a joke?

give me a break, you're being ridiculous. i am not defending calls to ban someone as a joke, clever or otherwise (which btw it wasn't - it was a throwaway comment.)

if i was banned for suggesting that someone be banned for boring me (which we both know will not happen) then fine , it would just show up this forum as a very uptight place.

meh, so i jumped in a couple of dozen times when a bully was picking on someone... i stood up to and bullied a bully. you can tick that one off on your list of things that people do in both real life and on the interwebz on the column with my name above it. i promised him many threads ago that i would see him gone (and back again i'm sure) because it was inevitable. its not like i made a thread about banning him or complained to the mod(s) on the forum. i told him i wasn't going to let up as long as he was being a douche for the sake of being a douche and attacking someone outright and belittling them based on them sharing REAL information about themselves - in some other thread FFS! besides, he was always willing to go... am i wrong here? did you not read that on more than one occasion in a post i made directed at him??? No, i'm not. Yes, you did.

thanks. i'll take that #1 honor

i'd like to thank my momma for raising me right. the Ableton team for making this product that could bring us all here today. UKRuss for being a good sport. beats me for being pretty funny and not near as bad as MW would like to make him out to be. LoopStationZebra for being both persistent and willing to change his stance. Rave for... being Rave. Tone Deft cuz he's cool for real - fuck you naysayers, leedsquietman for being a generally nice and helpful person - seriously, whats wrong with that? ShelLuser for the same reasons as leeds, Angstrom for being both fascinating and helpful - not to mention pretty damn witty, Vlantis for putting one of my raps on an XBox video game, longjohns for helping with something a long time ago that i've never forgotten about, djsynchro cuz it just works, the list goes on and on... please forgive me for anyone i've left out... i'd also like to thank dum - without my sparring partner i couldn't be receiving this award from the MachinesWorking Foundation tonight *shrug* I told you so... finally i'd like to thank God, mostly because i know it will piss so many of you off. Thanks God! Fuck em!!

The hypothetical situation is simple, and you're flummoxing it right up.
Again, if you called to have someone banned as a joke, but it resulted in that person getting banned (not you, don't have a clue where you got that from?), would you be upset?
My contention is simple, I don't think you would, and if you would, are you thinking about the consequences of your actions? because from what I can tell David has no sense of irony at all. How that can be construed as you getting banned I'm not sure? And no, there is no guarantee that eventually they won't ban people like 3phase, he's been publicly admonished on these forums before.
My original comment wasn't even made with any emotional attachment whatsoever, I'm not a 3phase fan, but I have no doubt that people who publicly attack other users even as a joke wouldn't be upset if the attention they drew to that user resulted in a ban, and I stand by that belief.

Bullshit, you jumped in any time he posted whether the conversation was civil or not, and started attacking and making a scene. You're not Batman and dum wasn't the Joker.
You're some guy on the internet that got bent out of shape about another guy on the internet. Maybe initially because that person has temper issues, but eventually it was all about your ego and sense of moral superiority. Not much different than dum IMO. :P

you can call blue green and green blue if you want. I may not be Batman and he may not be Joker, but you're Fullofshit. i've seen my fair share of lies and half truths on this forum, but...
Machinesworking wrote:you jumped in any time he posted whether the conversation was civil or not
...is just plain wrong. feel free to dig through all his posts and threads to prove your point... you can't, but feel free to waste your time trying. with the exception of his broken logicboard thread what you will find are many examples where he was already reaming one person/nation or another being his typical cockmaster self before i jumped in and called him on it, then we go tit for tat. rinse. change thread.... repeat...

you like picking peoples posts apart and pulling quotes out of them that aren't the point and making them the point. i've been know to check and fight with dum from time to time. meh. to each his own.

so how many pages do you want to go with this? just because you're on his jock and miss him dearly doesn't mean you should make shit up to defend him. don't you have somebody else to derail, soundbite and prattle on with? i'm tired of this. i was making a point to LSZ before you interjected with your own moral superiority complex. :P

LSZ and MW - I am just a different type of user to you guys and that's cool. I've had disagreements with you both before, but nothing that degenerated into vicious personal attacks, nor did either of you post obscene googled pics or 'requote' a quotation to be insulting. I also respect you as musicians and for musical reasons, regardless of politics or other issues.

Yes, I accept that I tried to be a peacemaker in threads in the past, or try to stop some threads on politics or religion which were becoming toxic and I have realized in the past few months that this is futile and if people want to argue the toss and insult then that's their business, I have zero influence on those issues. I now tend to back away, occasionally getting into one or two threads with an opinion (i.e. religion), however, I won't be wasting my time with this in future.

As for dum, I admit that the timing of his ban seemed strange, and also that he had been less inflammatory and seemingly calmer in the couple of months before his ban. However, he just ran up too many red flags over a period of time - right or wrong, he was around for about 12 months longer here than he would have been on the Cubase forum. This is a pretty liberal place but it's not limitless to how many times you break the T&C. The users don't decide this, even those calling for a ban hammer, this is decided by Ableton.

There are 2 kinds of people on this world:

1. Those that see the internet as merely an extension of our real world and lives; where we must all (for the most part) play by the rules and treat each other with dignity and respect and love and never ever EVER be an asshole. Well, we're allowed to get a little hot under the collar, but only if we keep that behaviour in serious check and remember that people have feelings.

2. Those that see the internet as a fantasy land; where you can be whomever you want to be. Where you can bring as much or as little of your *real* self into the interwebs as you'd like. Where YOU decide if you're going to be a raving fucking asshole lunatic, or an exact carbon copy of yourself. Or something in the middle or outside.

I'm firmly in Camp #2. Anyone who isn't needs a fucking lobotomy. And, ironically, a reality check. :P

dum could be a real asshole. But I'm honestly scratching my head here because, well, if dum got under your skin that much ON AN INTERNET FORUM, how the fuck do some of you cope out in the real world??? Jebus. Seriously. dum is a mere child compared to some of the assholes we all have to deal with throughout life. Maybe that's it. Maybe some of you see the interwebs as a break from all that mean behaviour in the real world. If so, you should still schedule yourself for that lobotomy.

:x
yeah I don't know, that just sounds like either growing up or not to me… or at least sounds like a pretty lame way to get your kicks….

but more to the point I'm just saying that what I liked about the Ableton forum was not that kind of shit and I'm glad they're finally getting a handle on it

I was never, ever, in favour of moderation in the past when Ableton was smaller and the forum did a better job of regulating itself, but over the past year it steadily turned to a pile of shit which really wasn't a lot better than 4chan. There is already 4chan, nobody needs another one.

+1

Also Leeds, well put.
I would add that the reason to debate things like religion or politics is to learn, you might have a strong view point on something that changes within a conversation, whether you admit it to the person you're debating or not  , their opinion might open your eyes to new ideas. This of course isn't helped by moderation, simple fact is the majority opinion isn't always right, especially if it's in defense of it's own ideals.
I'm not sure if more moderation will bring in more interesting conversations, in fact AFA OT is concerned, probably not. Basically the Lounge will become less interesting, hopefully the lame ass flame wars in the other departments will simmer down though?

Hmm. There's some good back and forth going on here. *gasp* lol.

alex.the.forge wrote: what I liked about the Ableton forum was not that kind of shit and I'm glad they're finally getting a handle on it
Well, dude. I can't say it enough times: I thought the Lounge was where 'That kind of shit' was allowed - as long as we didn't break German Law or some such thang. I mean, I just. don't. fucking. get. it.

This is a forum started by a company that makes music software. Cool. There's like 10 areas here to talk about music and Live and blah blah blah where you should and must remain civil and - arguably - somewhat sanitized. Why did the Lounge have to suddenly fall under that catagory?? We'll never really know what went into that decision, but it certainly would have been fun to be a fly on the wall in that meeting/conf call.

Who gives a shit if djsynchro constantly repeats Apple marketing lines? How the fuck does that prevent someone from getting audio/software questions answered? Or promoting their stuff in Link You Music? Or giving some cool ideas in Tips and Tricks. I should be able to call you a commie pinko faggot without getting banned. And you should be able to respond by 1. Avoiding the Lounge or 2. Calling me a homophobic asswipe prick. WHY THE FUCK HAVE THE LOUNGE AT ALL? They should at least just rename it to 'Off Topic'.

One of the things that was cool about the Lounge when it first opened was that you could have these interesting threads about politics, and then some thread where ChiDJ tells us how he loves to suck cock but that he's not a fag per se.   That's nearly gone. Sadly.

The Lounge: All the politeness and respect found in the rest of the forum - but without Live talk. :x :x

I mean, at some point they're going to rename this thread:

ABLETON Merchandise
Discuss your favourite Ableton Merchandise
Got a fav live T-shirt? Let everyone know!
Absolutely in love with that new Ableton Laptop Bag? Here's the place to share!

Because, as dhilsabeck has nicely pointed out, that'll be the only non software topic that doesn't offend someone.
