It must be my first day on the internet. Somehow I'm taken aback by all the complaining. I didn't know that Ableton's mission statement was to provide custom audio solutions for individuals.
$300 for the feature set that they've added is very reasonable. If you won't use 'em, stick to 8 for a while longer, and then the pricing will surely go down over time, like it always does with everything. Or avoid it entirely.

I own Suite 8 (download version) and M4L and my upgrade to Live 9 Suite price is $234. That is reasonable if you ask me. Once I hear that everything is stable I'll definitely upgrade.
After watching more videos it does look like some gui changes have been made in terms of color, hue, darkness, etc.
Also I've been writing a lot of music with Maschine due to the controller. I can't even imagine how amazing Push is going to be with Live 9. The chord & scale functions and the browser/device/launching integration look incredible.
This update is more than I thought it would be. Remember...some DAW manufacturers do MUCH less than this and call it a "new" version.

I'm not used to new versions of DAWs being released but this was kind of anti-climactic in terms of new features. I'm not really disappointed because I really wanted the automation curve enhancements and Push looks awesome but...I guess I was hoping to be blown out of the water by new design changes or something.

fuck that.
Automation alone is enough to change they way I play with Live.

Sucks for them that they didn't get it out in time for Christmas, would have been perfect timing

It would have been cool if they had a part of the video where the tattooed guy making music had his session crash and then he opens up system processes and there's no Ableton hanging in there, and he turns around and gives a thumbs-up to the camera.

where are you getting this number?
i tried to go to the store but was accosted by oversized big ugly blue fonts and larger than life jpegs. the only deals i could find were on purchasing Suite 8, which i already own.

IMHO, I didn't pay for audio to midi (I don't even remember people massively requesting it as a feature in Live 9?!). Also I hope The Glue compressor doesn't add much to the price, as I have it already.
Anyway, I guess it's too early jump to conclusions right now.
sorry dude, but the posted new feature set is the new feature set. this isn't a marketing strategy where new shit gets announced every day. sentiments like "I didn't pay for audio to MIDI" are absurd. should ableton have called you first before deciding to add it?
anyway, glass is half---

^ Also, there have been quite a few people expressing a wish that Ableton should partner up with Celemony and have Melodyne integrated. I, for one, am really excited about the audio to midi feature.

Just so you know
Converting audio to MIDI. Ableton isn’t Celemony – you can’t convert audio to MIDI, then edit the MIDI, then change the pitch and rhythm of the original audio. (For that, you’ll still have to run Celemony as a plug-in, and I’m sure this will disappoint some users.) But what Live 9?s new “convert to MIDI” feature can do is “transcribe” melodic, polyphonic, and percussive content to an editable MIDI clip.

I'm really looking forward to playing some cello, and trying that tool out. I'm really excited!
