Illuminate your Push with a spotlight or turn the flash on your camera on, take a new picture and you got a device which looks at least "half as good as that one".

Oh nice. Thanks for the tip. Do I need M4L to do this?

Unfortunatly there is no way in m4l to make people realise that comparing pictures/videos which are taken with different illuminations/cameras is always dodgy.

The Ableton examples are not just because of lighting. Every photo and video looks far better than what many of us have on our Push's...

I was able to get a replacement which is MUCH better. Not perfect, but I'm happy. the previous unit i had was completely hideous. I've also applied the Seapush theme which looks terrific as well.

Finally a success story.
Bit of a pain to have it returned for a replacement but congrats on getting a decent build.

From Ableton Support:

1st email:

"Thanks for the feedback and for taking the time to communicate with us about Push. We're sorry for the frustration this is causing you.

We have had similar conversations with other customers, and are currently evaluating the situation.

Our developers are investigating possible solutions and while we can’t make any promises at this time, what we can do is offer to extend the return period for you.

This means you can wait to see if they are successful and if not, you can return your Push should you wish to do so (and provided it is in good condition)."

2nd email:

"Thanks for your reply. We are currently investigating solutions and we will proactively get back to you once we have some news. This will be before the end of the month."

I added the bold. "End of month" would make it end of August. So here's hoping we won't have to deal with returning units to solve the issue. I don't want to keep a rainbow Push due to resellability down the road once their units no longer have this issue. I will wait it out for now though

I got Push yesterday and had to look up videos to see what the difference was between the pink/purple and white pads, only to find they're all supposed to be white. Are people using Push units that don't have this issue or do they all suffer from it?

It's impossible to get it perfect, even the best have slight differences. That is due to the nature of RGB leds. That being said Ableton has stated they are working in a solution via software.

Word up, I found a thread where some pics were posted after calibration with said Ableton solution. I need dat.

Do you have a link to that thread? Or is something else known about the software solution (release date, does it work at all?)

cheers

I was concerned about having a big issue when received mine because I ordered it direct from Ableton to Australia and it would be a pain to return.

When I first loaded up Ableton with Push my heart sunk when I saw a heap of VERY different coloured pads.... Until I realised that was the key scale displayed by default and they were the root key markers :)

Mine is one of the latest ones (just sent 2 weeks ago) and if there were no threads about this I would not even detect an issue. The variance is so small it is a complete non issue for me which is good because being colour blind I have a hard enough time with some of the colours.

There is some colour variance on mine,
but i love push, try not to let it
bother you, its not worth it,mine
is really new i got it a week ago or
so.

If the colours are way out,get a replacement,
It just seems to be the way its made,
lets just make some music.

I was reading about this problem before i ordered,
and thought i hope the colours are not out
as i was turning it on for the first time,
but you know what, there is always gonna
be someone who is not happy, perfection
does not exist in this world,
thanks ableton for creating such a bad ass tool!.
