Same problem here. Just waiting on a patch i guess. I can get it to load but sometimes takes ten minutes or more.

What plug ins are you guys using? Maybe we all have a common problem.

I have a feeling its one of these causing the issue.

While I want Ableton to take some of the ideas Bitwig had an implement them, what i REALLY want them to do is work on getting Ableton to work super smooth - to get the program to hang less, start up faster and be more responsive. I have a pretty slick mac, but Ableton still feels bloated and buggy.

If I leave it open for too long it stops responding. About 50% of the time I try to open it, it stops responding. When I'm doing things like moving audio files in it hangs. The index task crashes all the time (want to turn it off!) I don't search my Library, why do I need this buggy resource heavy indexing on. Let me search via 3rd party on my own if I want to and drag in from finder. I love the software but I'm thinking do I have to buy a $6k mac pro to get a smooth and non-frustrating experience. Pleaaaaaaase spend time making it run smoother. Please.

Though one feature that should be added that would help them make the program better is integrating crash reporting. I say this every time I talk to them, and post it everywhere. It's very 1990s of them to make me compose an email and attach the crash report. It should just open up an in app dialogue and ask you what you were doing, hit send it goes. This would cause them to get a greater amount of data because most people in most cases don't want to bother to open up their email attach a file and send it to them. In fact I'm going to write to them right now about it again.

I'll add make Max for Live + Live integration more stable. Frankly, I'm shocked at how unstable this combo can be. Admittedly, this is on my system, YMMV (I'm not on Mavericks yet, but will be soon. Maybe M4L will be better...)

Nope. I've had a few crashes, almost never mid-session and mostly related to activating audio interfaces, but this only happens once. I restart and Live gets me back to where I was pre crash. Please note that I use 64bit Live. There's no reason to use the 32bit version in Mavericks. Use Jbridge for 32bit VST if you have to or try to upgrade them to 64bit. I got Dub Machines to replace Tal Dub II.

What's Ableton index?

I'd really would like Live to allow for faster loading. I seem to remember a DAW that could play back a song and load a new one already 20 years ago. Logic? This is very much needed right now in Live.

This is not in line with how Apple usually treats security support for previous versions of OS X. They just stopped support for OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard 4 months ago! The latest incremental update OS X 10.6.8 shipped 2.5 years before that.

I'm sure Mountain Lion will continue to get most security patches for a couple of years at least. That said, I think 10.7 Lion is worse than Mavericks for music production. I can imagine going to Mountain Lion unless my RME babyface stops the audio breakups I got with NI Audio mk2.

Java update? I can't see how Java would be involved with Live? Unless you're a Java developer I don't see why you'd need Java on your Mac.

As a side note: Do you by any chance have a Fusion drive in your iMac?

It's just a general recommendation, not specific to OS X 10.9 Mavericks and Ableton otherwise refrain from recommendations as they can't test all combinations of hardware, OS and Live versions. They don't mean that 64bit Live have issues. On their recommendations you can note that I use only 6gb and it works fine (Ableton recommends a minimum of 8gb. Again, this is a general recommendation). Especially compared to the 32bit versions.

IMHO if you're not on 64bit on Mavericks (a fully 64bit OS) you're missing out. Even if 32bit apps works just as well in theory. Practice beats theory. You should at least try if you do have issues on the 32bit version.

We've shortened our latency down in the studio to 64 samples with full CPU usage on 2 MacBook Pros (2007 and 2011). RME baby face and Onyx mixer with both. With 32bit we couldn't even work since Mavericks.

Unless Jbridge or other bridges is a solution that works for you, you will have to give up 32bit plug-ins. This is a pita, but the only downside I've encountered. I've found new great plugins to replace the old ones.

I'm sure that it will vary with your specific product mix and with how you make music, but for us using software instruments to a large extent (despite a pile of outboard gear) it made a significant difference.

I don't think anyone is that desperate. At the very least one is more likely to trade one set of issues for another. Also you may need to trade your Mac plugins for Windows ditto. That could set you off quite a bit.

If you on the other are desperate, then you can try whatever. I won't do Windows.

I "upgraded" to mavericks abouit a month after it came out. Had only problems. Even the flash player on the browser had audio issues. My interface had 10 times more problems (motu ultralite mk3). But from what i know it is not a secret that mavericks is not that "round working" when talking about audio. I downgraded to m lion and ableton to 32bit and since then all problems left this house....
