They actually remove spammer posts. Where is problem? It'll be rather problematic that each volunteer mods delete posts they don't like.

well chosen volunteer mods should of course not be ( and in my experience, don't) act in a biased way

It would. But I assume there would also be a trail of what have been deleted and if a moderator wouldn't just apply rules properly their service would be over. It's not an easy nut to crack though and it's not a good idea for Ableton to have to supervise any moderators too much. Should the choose to try that solution.

I trust that Ableton will find a way that works well for them and hopefully their users as well. They can't change us and how we debate though. Only we can decide to do that in a constructive manner and set the bar for any new people (and old members too perhaps). I'm not sure at all how to implement that in a way that works, i e in a way that people are likely to feel inclined to use.

What could be a seedling of a solution would be re-structuring the forums a bit and moving more toward the style of the stackexchange sites where the issues are very focused and discussions likewise focused to to achieve the specific goal the OP needs. Side-discussions are discouraged and/or edited (hidden), answers are given points by users and questions too. Both can be edited. It's a Meritocracy so you get points with experience which give you actions you can take. People invest with their participation and are less likely to take risks with stupid moves the longer they go. If you're new you can make very little. Spammers would need to really work for the opportunity to post their drivel to just become history very quickly.

Of course Ableton already have Answers from the Ableton community. which is focused on Ableton Live, but similar things could be done with areas that typically have those kinds of questions, like "Music and Audio Production" for instance.

You could have sub-forums that were structured more like Stackexchange and yet others more focused on actual discussions that are not "seeking solution" oriented where more evolving discussions could take place.
The internet needs new ways of socializing, seeking solutions and getting knowledgeable. Sticking with the old is probably not the solution for decade old problems. I think the Stack Exchange model is worth considering for some sections also here.

You'd need moderators for such a reworked site most likely and some would naturally be from the community. They'd be the members with enough merits. I'd imagine they'd have limited powers though and like only certain actions in certain sub-forums, depending on merit points.
I don't think we should be afraid of community moderators, but choosing that solution does need to some careful handling. Again, the Stack Exchange model seem to work very well for making that from the community itself.

All that sounds great but it's likely never going to happen because Ableton have always chosen a very hands-off approach with this place. The forum used to be downright anarchic a decade ago. They "clamped down" a few years ago by simply making some rules but still barely moderating.

The spammer is a guy who got pissed about something a few years back and then lost it. His recent behavior is actually relatively tame. At one point he was tracking people's email accounts down and signing them up for all kinds of random newsletters.

And anyway it's kind of like terrorism or school shootings. It doesn't matter how many laws you make or deterrents you create. Crazy fuckers are going to find ways to do crazy shit.

Well, the stack exchange model would be very hands-off for Ableton as the community would be a part of forming it. It's probably not important that exactly that happens though. What I think is important is that something constructive take place.

Yep, those too. I used to have all of my various website and Souncloud, etc. information in my sig, but took it down when this crap started happening.
