Yo 5 is pretty tight so
I could only hope for a built in loop slicer - and maybe some better Control Change action for Rewire instruments
but man, if 5 is cool 6 will be cooler
I came on board Live 3 and was blown away - it's just gotten better and better as the days have gone by
but I would hope for
a loop slicer or a multiple zone sampler
that combinator thing I suggested in the feature wishlist
perhaps bounce to MP3 action would be nice to
Better CC rewire action
multiple monitor support - one session, one arrange 2 monitors
I'm excited but paying $100+ a year to maintain my software is taxing

Agreed, the $100 a year is much to ask if significant changes aren't made. I would be willing to pay for an upgrade with the features you mentioned adonis, that would make my life a tad simpler, with "multi-simpler" hehehe

Yes! I've been using a dual monitor studio for about two years now and wished I could see the Arrange and Session views simutaneously. And the ability to 'float' windows(like in Sonar and Wavelab) would be very handy too. I suspect however that enabling simultaneous views of Arrange and Session might incur substantial cpu drain- and maybe that's why they haven't done it?glu wrote:Would anyone here be pleased if live 6 had multi monitor support (simultaneous session/arrangement screens)...

a very good point indeed. i dont use lives instruments, 1 i dont want to pay for them, and 2 i have reaktor 5, and therefore the technology to build my own synths, samplers whatever.Anubis wrote:I certainly hope that the secret, un-announced 'features' contained this 'new' version 6 are truly innovative technologies and not just another demo instrument! There's tons of instruments out there already and quite frankly I expected something more unique than Operator. That should've been included for FREE.
I'm hoping for something truly revolutionary like the quantum leap that Live 2.0 was for most of us that liberated us from the notion of linear composition. I strongly feel it should be Ableton's adaptation of Melodyne's ground-breaking audio manipulating technology. This is more in keeping with what drew us to Live in the first place. Heck, Sonar 5 has already incorporated a similar technology into their flagship sequencer (in conjunction with Antares). And there's yet another version soon to be released called Membrane. For God's sake don't give us another drum synthesizer or some such redundant tool.
Ableton are in a dangerous period of expansion at the moment. With Live 4, they went from obscure specialist app to starting to take on the big boys.
If you think the software is becoming bloated, think about what's happening in their office. I wouldn't be supprised if there are 5 times the number of programers they had for Vers 4. Not to mention management, marketing, accounts, etc.
But it seems that they are still listening to the varied needs of their customers.
A mass boycot of the lastest upgrade could be enough to kill off a company in this position (or more likely allow the likes of steinberg to buy it out).
I think it's a bit daft saying you won't upgrade before you even know what additional features are being added. I'd be very suprised if Dual core support was it. I expect they'll at least try to fill the few small areas where it lags behind the standard DAWs, add a few more perfomance features and throw in a few more effects. Hopefully this can be done without destroying the feel of it (worked for MIDI and VSTs). Whether they try anything really groundbreaking- Who know?
I personnally didn't upgrade to 5, as I didn't need the extra features at the time. But I'm now seriously considering it. I'll certainly have a very close look at 5.2. Maybe that'll get me a small discount for 6.

Did everyone miss the part of the 5.2 announcement where they said that for version 6 they are working on faster audio (read better performance) for everyone. At least the way I read it, dual processor support was only one means to that end. I think we're gonna be blown away with the speed boost they're gonna give everyone.

I am personnaly expecting a a lot of features and effects, robert henke said a few months ago in the wishlist that beat repeat will be one of many beat "somthings" in the future.
I think we will see lots of original ideas in V6.
V5 has given ableton real exposure to the world, they will make sure v6 will impress.

I think most of all agree that Live 5 is quite "fat", "slow", more prone to audio glitches and such. i've read several people who are having problem with big live sets that worked perfectly in 4.1.4 that now give all kinds of problems. I was one of them. THAT should be fixed. It's a live performance tool, that should be the most important thing. Make it work, make it stable. All other features should be second place until new things are added.
On the other hand we have nice things now. Muliple midi controllers. Usability features (right click menus!). Beat Repeat, you name it.
Maybe as some people have said, Live 6 will be a major overhaul of the app. I find that a bit difficult to believe, due to costs and time. It will probably be an improvement of what we already have.
My 2 cents, cos I love the app.

Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.
yes it is good idea for ableton to make a live performing version and studio version. It is probably not in the business idea of ableton snd before I agree with them to this but not now. Its should be callednuperspective wrote: or are we going to see live split. live performance software package and daw software package. ableton need to ask themselves who they are and who they want to be in the marketplace. ultimately, who their customers are.
Live Performer
Live Premier
Or somethings like thhis. Live premier is for studio use and to have arranging things that performers not haveing.
I agree with you. I i have using sonar 5 to evaluation. Its is very serious softwares with amazing features. I thinking and wondering why Sonar is not so popular in the eu.> I thinking thier marketing people are not so good? I think it is best native software in features and performance is great. Ableton should learn from Sonar people. They start building softwares at same time but look how far sonar becomings compare to live. Is this the programmers being better at Sonar?Anubis wrote: I strongly feel it should be Ableton's adaptation of Melodyne's ground-breaking audio manipulating technology. I don't think Live should be made into two different versions, make it more configurable (within reason) but don't make two apps. I want to use the same app everywhere.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I'm sorry, but wasn't "Sonar" known as "Cakewalk" before that? IIRC it's a very old program...radeon wrote:Ableton should learn from Sonar people. They start building softwares at same time but look how far sonar becomings compare to live. Is this the programmers being better at Sonar?
