What would be ideal is if you could break off the piano roll for the second monitor in much the same way Reason does it with the sequencer.
That, and it would be nice to drag clips from Session to Arrangement without doing the mac OS9 drag through folder scheme thing. (You know, drag clip to Arrangement icon in upper right corner and drag to track...... crap! what track was that on? back to Session..... back to Arrangement, move track....
Granted, none of this applies to a laptop too much, and it's probably not going to happen, Ableton are pretty firm about the single interface it seems.

the video window and external plug ins are the only ones that are break away windows, those can fit to a second display.

otherwise it seems like Live's design ethos of no buried menus (IMO this is well done, complemented by the help box) and two basic workflows, session for sketches, arrange for finalizing those ideas, that's where you render from anyway. clip view is the third entity that's always available, EDIT BUTTON INCLUDED.

I actually find it way easier to use ctrl+C/ctrl+V

Hold file, hit tab?

Tab being a function you can "steal" from the mackie control map..

haven't read the whole thread, but i agree. bottom line 100 for this and 100 for that and upgrade this for that is A BUNCH of bullshit. i love live, but it isn't all that and it does not come with shit to begin with. throw us a fuckin bone and include that shit in the package. that is just greedy. all you fan boys can defend them and say you should pay for them separate cause live is so unique and all that shit but i hope deep down you know it is bullshit.

at least apple has their heads on straight. them dropping the price on logic isn't crazy, it's fucking sane, 1000 dollars for a complete daw package, that's what is crazy

i just got a PT job with the appz. i get logic for pennies and am encouraged to learn it. and i will.

i will also upgrade live and still use it because it is fun. but quit being a bunch of cheap asses and make your program a complete package. if you have to charge up the ass because you team up with other companies, that is your bad move; hire someone and make it yourself. if i want aas soft instruments, i don't know, maybe i will buy them from aas. how about live gives us some ableton products

Well here's my summary:

* Like the improvements new stuff added to the core programme
* Disappointed about some of the stuff not added, and frustrated about some remaining limitations
* Concerned about the price
* Not really interested in the content.

Don't forget that Ableton are marketing to new users, not just trying to pursuade long-time users to upgrade.
Most people looking at buying their first DAW wouldn't know what the hell most of these "missing requested features" are that people keep talking about, I'm sure I don't.
But I do know that if I was shopping around and I was given a choice of "more advanced MIDI manipulation and improved clock" or "a little synth that makes really loud bass noises" I would go for the latter. Yes indeedy.

i just think live should come with at least ONE non sample based instrument. impulse and simpler both need samples to run off of. it only makes sense there should be a really good synth that just comes with it. if only they had one to include in the package...

now this is the first very good argument I hear that isn't argumented by money..

yes, yes.. you are very right here.. makes alot of sense..
synthesis should be part of the basics..

I could imagine a stripped down 2 oscilator version of Operator would be a very smart move to include into the basic package..

Same as Simpler > Sampler

I'm still using vers. 5

But, I use LIVE as a rewire slave into DP.

LIVE is indispensible for my production work. Logic nor DP can do what it does.

Version 6 and 7 seem to be more of "let's try and be like other DAW's" updates. I don't need that fluff because my DAW already has it.

I just wish they would continue to exploit the unique tool that LIVE is rather than try to keep up with the Jones'.

I'll stay with 5.

Long LIVE session view! 8)

i'm not sure why it's so hard for people to understand that live caters to people with different priorities. yes, that means they have to strike a balance, as done in any business.

while live with all the goodies is very expensive, it's not really that expensive an upgrade (that is, it's not $1000 just to upgrade). so i'm not sure what all the current users are complaining about.

as for the apple comparisons, give it a rest. apple is protecting its HW via cheap SW. you pay either way (that is, you paid for a mac, part of that cost is subsidizing your logic).

The whole company? Down the toilet? That's a bit of a toil.
