Peter Hooks Fake DJing
What is all the fuss about?
The "DJ" (Or should I say main act) gets booked and gets paid some good coin. The act is happy
The punters pay the coin to the promoter who booked the main act and they make a profit - The promoters are happy
The Club who hired the venue to the promoters get a packed out club and make a killing selling water for 5 times a reasonable price - They are over the moon Happy
The punters have a great night, dance til 6 in the morning, go to an after party, may even pick up a partner and have more fun, get home thinking what a wonderful night - They are super happy and are keen to go and see the next main act that the promoter puts on.
The Act is booked to draw a crowd, not neccesarily for his skills but for his ability to bring the punters through the door.
Personally i prefer (and I bet most the people on this forum would too) to go to events that are unique. The new upcoming DJ's with awesome skills, the guys who use ableton who mash up tunes or loops to create a truely unique set, the Live Acts that try new stuff on stage and not just play the same songs in the same way you hear on the radio...
but everyone to there own... The Big Names, he Big clubs are mostly very commercial but pull a big crowd which produces the $$$'s and the kids that follow the lasted fads think they are cool because they went to an event with a Big name DJ and don't care about his skills etc.
Most passionate music lovers will not buy it, but there are a lot more commercialised pop kids around than us folk. Let them have there fun and lets concentrate on doing what we truly love, creating and supporting good music and talented, innovative musician's, turntablelists, live acts, loop manglers, effect gurus etc.

[quote=/what suprises me that we are on page 6 of this thread and nobody has started naming and shaming "proper" electronic producers / dj's who fake it, such Switch etc./quote]
really? v dissappointed if that's true. i've always rated him highly as a producer - never seen him DJ though. when, where etc.
and who else?
