I had that viewpoint last general election and it was the only presidential election I didn't participate. And here we are now Bush is in office who won by a razor thin margin. Where did that viewpoint get me...nowhere. Man was I wrong.smutek wrote:A decision to boycott an election is quite different than saying "oh my vote isn't heard" or not voting out of laziness. It's a conscious decision and one that takes more courage, thought and genuine insight than just voting for "whoever the dems throw up" IMHO.
If it came down to it and I had my choice of Hitler, Stalin or Musolini I'd rather say that I choose none. An extreme example yes, but an example nonetheless.
Not uncommon over here. Though it has the same effects as not voting."some voters will deliberately spoil their ballot paper to show disapproval of the candidates available whilst still taking part in the electoral process"
Sometimes saying "Fuck You" to somebody's face has the effect of validating their actions. The best way to express disgust is to ignore them.smutek wrote: Yeah, it is a drag. The difference would be saying "fuck you" to someone while you are alone at your house or going over to their place and saying it to their face.
But that is my point. I have no wish to take part in the electoral process because it has become so grossly distorted and no longer serves the people it was set up to serve. It has been bought, lock, stock and barrel by the oil and pharmaceutical and tobacco and armaments companies and exists to keep us powerless and docile with the illusion of participatory democracy."some voters will deliberately spoil their ballot paper to show disapproval of the candidates available whilst still taking part in the electoral process"
yes belgium is very closedjadonis206 wrote:Sociologist say that the happiest people in the world are in Denmark
I assume Belgium's close to denmark - my geography is horrible
I thought New England was a State and thought Scotland was somewher else other than where it actually is
but I agree, just cause you don't want to play doesn't mean you have to spoil for the kids who do want to play
Well its a common problem. It keeps running off everywhere, just won't stay on the same spot man. Thats why we suck at geography over here. A bit like you'r miss america who wants more maps (can't really remember the incidentand thought Scotland was somewher else other than where it actually is

You think the bullshit which passes for democracy today is the ideal that the likes of Emily Davison and Emmeline Pankhurst fought for back in the day?
From some of the comments on here it is clear what an effective con-job has been perpetrated. Tone Deft and others obviously sincerely believe that their little X on their Diebold touchscreen is going to make a difference to how their country is run and nothing anybody says will convince them otherwise.
No matter who wins, you can guarantee that six months after the election they'll all be here going:
"I feel so cheated! I voted for Obama/Clinton/McCain/Romney because they said they'd do X, Y and Z, but they've done none of it, we're still in Iraq and my taxes just went up again."
Because that's what happens every time. They get into office, they do none of the things they promised, they get into sordid dealings with the Saudi royal family and, later on, make a fortune from directorships and book tours.
Every election you all go off to vote, convinced it'll all be different if only so-and-so gets in - and they always turn out to be lying, self-enriching cunts.
Blair, Bush, Putin, Berlusconi, Aznar, Sarkozy, Thatcher, Reagan, Clinton, Nixon etc etc etc...
I've heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result.
Keep voting. Keep getting shafted. Maintain the status quo and hope that some enlightened generation years down the line will sort it out.
Sometimes the best course of action is inaction.
have you EVER been a US citizen? you're not one now, that's for sure but you're trying to play yourself off as one? whatever...popslut wrote:But that is my point. what a stupid thing to say. but somehow not voting is better than using a black box to vote? that's just dumb. you'd rather curl up and hide than put your voice out there (again, you're not a US citizen, so stfu.) you're just letting them win, whining and running. oh, but you've never voted in a US election and you're not welcome to do so.From some of the comments on here it is clear what an effective con-job has been perpetrated. what an arrogant prick. you're putting words in my mouth that I do not say. I have said that even when 'your guy' gets into office stuff happens you don't agree with. I've never been in denial that shady stuff happens all the time. this is more bullshit lies you're spouting, putting words in other peoples' mouths to support your own hollow point. the ol' straw man bullshit tactic. No matter who wins, you can guarantee that six months after the election they'll all be here going:

Clinton was a good president. enough with the fucking whining already, yes politics are shady, change your diaper and grow up.Blair, Bush, Putin, Berlusconi, Aznar, Sarkozy, Thatcher, Reagan, Clinton, Nixon etc etc etc...
you've already given up. are you really so clueless as to look at a candidate like Romney and then look at Clinton and think there's no difference? that's really really ignorant. you're giving into the very powers you're complaining about, somehow not voting is going to make a difference?Keep voting. Keep getting shafted. Maintain the status quo and hope that some enlightened generation years down the line will sort it out.
and this is not one of those situations. not voting is simply stupid, that's not how things get done. you're just rolling over and playing dead, letting yourself get played. it's completely ass backwards but you somehow think it's clever. you're letting them win, you're letting them have the country.Sometimes the best course of action is inaction.
You don't have to "get" it. All you have to do is accept that another person may have different beliefs.Tone Deft wrote:
I don't get how not voting is going to change anything, it's rolling over and letting the people who have pissed you off win.
