ahhh good thing i searched for movie threads and found this one. Was about to create a new thread for my following post. Though in a way it kind of deserves it....

So I'd seen this film a few years ago, and out of boredom (and a little bit of insomnia... hoping a flick would help knock me out), I came across it online, and decided to watch it... and I instantly remembered why I was absolutely horrified and had nightmares for weeks on end after having seen it the first time.

I know it's been said probably a BILLION times, but this film should be deemed REQUIRED viewing for all men.

my original plan to lullaby myself to sleep by watching a movie backfired miserably. Now I'm too scared to go to sleep. Dear sweet baby jesus, do I regret my actions

Possibly mentioned in this thread already but I recently saw Hard Candy and that movie is just way too fucked up. My friend had it saved on his hard drive and it really made me have to reevaluate his mental stability. I don't know why anybody would want to revisit that movie.

That's too funny... I have it stored on my Apple TV!

Great film. Outside of "the-scene-that-you-know-I'm-refering-to" it's not THAT disturbing.

Irréversible

Definitely the movie that messed me up most... and i'm never phased by violence, gore or anything generally thought as scary.

For an interesting "musical theory" note (since this is the Ableton forum):

The first 30 minutes of the film has a background noise with a frequency of 28Hz (low frequency, almost inaudible), similar to the noise produced by an earthquake. In humans, it causes nausea, sickness and vertigo. It was the main cause of people walking out of the theaters during the first part of the film in places like Cannes and San Sebastian. In fact, it was added with the purpose of getting this reaction.

Music for this film was done by Daft Punks Thomas Bangalter!

Seriously, watch this movie.

Haven't read thru this whole thread so not sure if these have been mentioned but...

Usually if people end up at my place for a late night of partying, and I want to get rid of 'em..I put in El Topo or Holy Mountain. That usually sends them on their way after about 15-20 minutes.

Classic medical horror. It was the feature-film debut of Georges Franju who had previously made a number of shorts, most acclaimedly The Blood of the Beasts (1949), a documentary that depicted what happened inside a slaughterhouse.

Eyes Without a Face also pioneered the theme of the mad surgeon, which centre around the shock of facial mutilation and disfigurement and play on people’s fear of doctors.

Ōdishon US: Audition; Dir. Takashi Miike, 1999

Audition

A lonely Japanese widower whose son is planning to move out of the house soon expresses his sadness to a friend and fellow film producer, who becomes inspired to hold an audition for a non-existent film so that the widower can select a new potential bride from the resulting audition pool. The widower ultimately becomes enamored with and fascinated by one particular young woman, but his first impressions become wrong.

This movie takes a long time to get going it's very slow, creepy and arty at first then goes totally insane the way only the Japanese know how. Not for the faint of heart.
