I'm not sure. Even I am kind of hesitant. I've become more and more fascinated by the iPad as a sound generator/controller, and this is strictly a controlling method.

I'll probably YouTube the lemur app to try and convince myself I want it haha

TouchAble seems to get all the attention (especially on here), but Lemur is the originator and $10 is a really good deal when you consider the original package was like $2,500.

I honestly don’t know what the difference is between the 2 at this point, but as always, I favor anything that isn’t geared towards a single piece of software. Is TouchAble mostly for Live? Is Lemur more opened ended as the original?

I find Touchable to be waaaay too crowded and cluttered. It doesn't suit me at all.
Like, yeah you can access the fifth band of the third EQ 8 on the second chain of track 9. But my god does it feel like a chore.

The thing I use most on my iPad is TouchOsc, I choose what I need to see and I send those parameters from live to the iPad. If I need 8 buttons and the name of the currently selected track - then thats what I'll see. Touchable seems overly obsessed with representing every single aspect of Live in a much smaller space with a slightly less good interface. I mean it's a noble and heroic amount of work, but I don't need EVERYTHING nested, I already have that right there on my PC ... It's literally 3 feet away.

What I need is these 8 things brought to the surface. A performance interface. That's what live's GUI doesn't do and that's my need from an iPad interface. Not clutter, I need selective reduction!

I'd buy Lemur too, but it doesn't actually show up in my app store!

It's not showing up because they are waiting for the recent revision's approval by Apple.

The latest update was crashing for a lot of users. Instead of breaking more peoples' versions with the update, they removed it from the App Store.

The downside of this is that it is now unavailable. It'll be available when the fixed/working version is approved.

But they are certainly planning to have this sale and give people an opportunity to buy it at the $10 price tag.

I forgot about TouchOSC. As I don’t perform or need to do anything from across the room I don’t really use these controller apps. There aren’t many things (for me) that aren’t just as easily pulled off with a mouse or parameter mapped to hardware.

I think the main draw for touch surfaces with control is that it offers abstract visual feedback and algorithms of control while also retaining multi-touch.

Mouse/touchscreen can't do multi in Live. Knobs and faders are extremely useful, but they don't always display things, or experience physical limitations.

I like to take advantage of and explore all my options :). It is gratifying at times to do note-tracked slides. This can't be done in Live, but it is one of those newer possibilities which touch screens have opened up.

I mainly stand in a small room in front of an a-frame with two controller keyboards, an FCB and launchpad with the iPad.
All I really need to see on my iPad screen is : the name of the currently selected track, and the names and positions of the macros on that track. So TouchOsc is fine for that simple large objects displaying current status vars.

I use Isotoniks launchsync following the launchpad and so if I want to select a track and view it I tap the BCR track and it will show all I need on the screen. Then I play the keyboards, knowing what noise is going to come out! I'm like a bargain bucket Vangelis .

The ipad is just a big LCD for the active selected track and parameters, I can tweak 'em from there too (over OSC) but mainly I use the launchsynced hardware.

May seem archaic by today’s standards but what I think needs to be made is a (non-touch) screen with an overlay of clear hardware pads. That way you still get the tactile performance but visually you can get more info under each pad like text and a wider variety of colors or graphic elements.

I just had Siri tell me how many cups are in a quart. I always forget I can use Siri for some basic stuff I look up on Google from time to time. Currency conversion is another thing.

The volume buttons on the new Apple TV remote somehow magically controls the volume on my TV without setting anything up. I assume its sending some kind of message through the HDMI cable because I don’t even need to be pointing the controller at the TV.

The pause/play button on my universal remote no longer works with the Netflix app but works on all other streaming apps. :x

So my mom has been saying she wants to replace her iPad 1 with an iPad Mini for forever, but she never mans up and does it. So she texts me saying I should buy it when I find a good deal and then she’ll pay me. Dumbass, the best deals, and possibly only deals of the year, just happened a week ago. :x

I’m not above buying her one for full price for Christmas and telling her to write me a check for $100 less than what I paid for it. but it just doesn't feel right. :| :x

I'd be so happy if I could still give my Mom a gift.

So I pulled the trigger on an iPad Mini 4 for my mom. $10 cheaper than Apple with free shipping and no tax through B & H Photo because they don’t have a physical presence in CA. That’s probably about as good as its going to get until next Black Friday. :x

In CA a 10% discount is near pointless because that’s pretty much our sales tax rate. You can just buy from an out of state retailer without paying tax and at your leisure without the pressure of an expiring discount. :x

On music gear buy from American Musical because they ship (most things) from Nevada which means no tax and even with free ground shipping it will still get to you next day.

Holy shit. They removed the "show in iTunes" button from iOS Apple Music. So if I'm listening to a song I want to buy I need to switch to iTunes manually and type it in or Shazam it with my iPhone. Who is behind this "lets make it more difficult for people to spend money" innovation. Fucking idiots. :x
