Re: iPad
I’m sure there will be adaptors, provided by Apple or not, but then you also have the issue that you can’t charge and listen at the same time unless you use some bulky multi-function adaptor, but I guess in the bigger picture it isn’t all that different than having 2 cables plugged directly into the iPhone.
I don’t really like Bluetooth earbuds because they have those clasps that are supposed to secure them to your ears but I can never figure out how to make them fit properly even with multiple size options. They’re just awkward and a chore to put on. The other issue is yet another thing to charge. Oh yay.
Apple seems to be on this port removal kick like the single USB-C port on the new Macbooks. It seems to have no purpose other than “elegant simplicity” which will be ruined by multiple or multi-purpose adaptors. And you can’t convince me that only having a single port made room available for some other big tech advancement that previously couldn’t fit. Maybe it’s nano-grams lighter but it’s a computer, not a space craft where the slightest weight reduction has a benefit.

Upgraded my Hue lights
Got a wall mounted hardware switch that turns the lights on and off and dims them. Looks like a regular wall switch but it is a remote held on by magnets so you can adjust the lights from anywhere.
I can also tell Siri to turn the lights on and off by either room or individual bulbs or set the dim level. I can even do it if I’m not home. I can also use geo fencing to automatically turn the lights on when I get close to home.
I mostly got this all setup because I just don’t want to get out of bed to turn the lights on or off.

This is where Apple is now
My gf has a video on her phone and wants it on her Mac
She pays every month for the abortional iCloud shit pile, and has many many gig of storage on there.
All her photos and video shoot up the shitpipe

All her photos and video shoot up the shitpipe
- connects her phone to the Mac with a lightning cable but the video file is not there any more to get, its in the iCloud
- She activates iCloud photo sharing on her Mac and it starts to upload 175 gigabytes of photos and videos from her mac to the cloud
- I notice that the internet has slowed to a crawl and intervene.
- she tries to stop the upload but the process seizes her Mac solid.
- I pull the plug on the iCunt.
- while the pile of appleshite reboots I tell her to try just exporing it from her phone, like "send to dropbox" or similar
- she does that and the phone locks up on 1% "preparing". stuck forever
- the iMac shite restarts finally and I tell her to look at her iCloud through Safari
- She has never used this method, but tries to log in with her keychain.
- the Mac seizes up again for ten minutes, when it resumes it say she has to update some information
- first she must answer the question: what was the first band you saw. She does not remember setting this up.
- there is no "reset my password link"
- there is a support button it shows a mysterious 4 character number, there is no indication what to do with this number.
- She starts to cry.
- 7 hours have passed
Re: iPad
Setting up the iCloud sync for photos and videos for the first time can be painfully slow. My mom had 80GB which I thought was obnoxious, but it looks like that might just be considered a cute start by comparison to some people. It took all weekend to upload to the cloud and I also had her get the Caffeine app ($2.99 in the OSX App store) which puts a coffee cup icon in your menu bar that prevents your computer from falling asleep when on. Photos and videos won’t upload in the background when the computer is asleep.
Once setup though it’s been pretty smooth sailing and its great that delete a photo or video from one device or computer and it deletes them from everything and you can also have it setup to auto store low res copies on your computer or idevice but the full res copy will remain in the cloud. A lot of the next iOS and MacOS is about auto storing files in the cloud to save on physical drive space. Cue the day 1 early adopters (or even day 1 – 120) screaming about how Apple lost all their files in the cloud.

Re: iPad
I put my parents on notice that when the next iPhone comes out we’re all getting one and they are getting a minimum 64GB drive. I’m tired of trying to trouble shoot when the problem is almost always they are out of drive space or can’t take advantage of the latest iOS magic because of their dated hardware.
They agreed to my demands.
Re: iPad
she resolved her issues this way
She opened the video from her iCloud (shot on her phone) in her iMovie on her iPad
She rendered it out and exported the new file and uploaded that to Youtube
then she used a browser extension in chrome on her iMac to download the video from her youtube account onto her iMac
simple!
It Just Works
it's so much easier than the silly old "these two devices are on wifi together so you can just send the files between the two"
I mean, where's the CORPORATE FUN in that?

She tried airdrop and it didnt work. Spent a good hour on it.
Its active on all devices. Ipad air2, iMac from 2014. IPhone 6, So not too ancient or underpowered.
The mac certainly had it active, But pressing the Airdrop button on her phone just froze up the phone. She uses Airdrop often for photos, but this is a 15 minute video. Possibly a filesize issue. There was no indication of the problem or solution from any of the OSes
I tried Airdrop before plugging in a cable. But of course ... the file isnt even on her phone so I couldnt even rescue it with iFunbox

Re: iPad
Airdrop almost never works for me and my wife either, both of us with very recent computers. Works fine with my ipHone to my laptop though strangely.

Apple’s cloud services have sucked dating all the way back to Jobs telling the Mobile Me team “Why the fuck doesn’t this work? You should all be ashamed of yourselves” and yet they keep piling more and more into the cloud/air as if they aren’t happy if they aren’t currently offering a cloud service that doesn’t work reliably.
On a semi related note, Hue bulbs don’t seem to work when it’s hot and/or humid. Don’t know if it has to do with air quality noise but I couldn’t get them to respond from my dimmer switch or idevices last night. Air cooled down and dried up by this morning and they worked fine. Good thing I didn’t disconnect the lights from the main wall switch or I would have been all kinds of

Maybe have your girlfriend rename her video “U2 Concert” and I bet it will transfer without issue in under 3 seconds.
