Hey, just shared this on another abe forum, but thought may be of interest here :)

....Have just got my one-off custom ableton controller with integrated audio interface back from the workshop. has been 4 months from design to completion.

Here she is :D

Also I've posted a load more pics on our website here - http://www.zlistersmusic.co.uk/live.php5?f=1
(You can see bigger images on the site by hitting 'download image' under each photo)

Based on 3 faderfoxes (LD2, LC2, LX2) & an Echo Audiofire2 interface, with all self contained wiring also being custom made (standard cables & breakout box were too big to fit within the 'laptop' sized footprint I wanted)

Just plugs & plays, with stereo phono outs & a firewire400 coming from the left of the box & headphone socket & level on the right, & have kept faderfoxes battery powered so we can just rock up with macbook, & box & only need 1 mains plug

I'm lucky enough to have a master carpenter & french polisher in the family, as the woodwork alone totalled 28 hours!!!!!!!

Nice - what kind of wood did you use for the case?

woodwork was all done by a family member who's a professional carpenter & french polisher & they used cedarwood

Sweet!!! :D :D :D

Great idea. I've been worried that my Faderfoxes are too light. They're not very steady when you start moving the faders. You have to keep 'em in place with one hand.

I wooden case makes for added stability and great (!) looks.

OMG that's lovely! I want one for my foxes (I have 3 as well) - are you taking orders? Can you make it in ebony to go with my black laptop?

Seriously though I think you may just have inspired me to get off my arse and do a bit of engineering!

I did consider it, but the audiofire didnt seem to run particularly hot at any time in the month or so I had it previous to the build - but the box is getting thoroughly fiddled with (sorry - i mean 'tested') over this w/e to make sure there's no issues. There's a decent amount of space behind it too which should help out

Having a solid piece of gear to work with makes a huge difference for me. I bet your playing is going to improve once you get used to this rig.

Making your ideal mobile controller vision a reality is pretty rare. Congrats!
