mac os x

i am seriously considering getting a mac, because put short, PC's SUCK, but i am wondering a few things:

1. do mac users prefer os 9 or os x?

2. i heard somewhere that os x provides zero-latency audio monitoring. is this true or am i going insane?

3. what should i buy on an approximately $1500 budget for doing live shows?

:D Buy a Mac! You will never look back!
I use OS X all the time. Reason works wonderfully in X and so does Live!
The latency is very low and with the new 10.2 that is coming out very soon all audio and midi stuff are built into the OS. I was shocked at how well my audio apps worked in OSX. I switched to X and haven't used 9 for a few months now.

As far as what you should buy. If it was for home I would say the Flat panel iMac.....But for a portable live machine get the mid-range iBook ($1499) It's 700mhz, have a built in DVD/CDRW drive and will be great for using LIVE.

keep in mind that the major sequencers like cubase and logic are still not available for os x, but that will change within the next few months.

Also, Apple just bought logic so that may be a lot sooner!

OS X audio and midi is phenomenal.

An example:

I have a tascam us 428 midi+audio+controller box. highly reccomended.

Under OS 9 it gets 11 ms of latency. Not too shabby

Under OS X I can run it with 1 ms of latency. Amazing for a USB device!
