sound quality.. help. gig tomorrow

Post by landolando » Thu Nov 27, 2008 9:36 am

this is a dj style set, and i've loaded all the tracks up and changen them to complex.. however the sound is still a little grainy. none of the tracks stray further than 5bpm from their original tempo. what am i missing? im sure it should sound better than this...

thanks

Hi landolando,

"Complex" mode might not always be the best selection for your tracks, I would recommend giving other modes like "Beats" and "Repitch" (if you don´t mind the pitch-change) a try. Furthermore: what file format are your tracks in?

Best,

my tracks are all wavs and sound good (i think).. "beats" loses a lot of quality, and "repitch" defeats the point of what i'm trying to do.

its all 125-130bpm electro house style music.

is this normal? does ableton always take away from the sound quality?

Objectively speaking (no insults meant):

It seems that you lack experience with Live and its different warping options and should not be doing live gigs with it yet unless you can live with the outcome of your lack of control and knowledge of the application.
HAL: I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.

I guess I don't understand what u r trying to do, cause 125 - 130bpm range is perfectly suited to repitch ... you ever DJ'd with vinyl on technics 1210's???

Many hundreds of fine DJ's have built solid careers over decades using 'repitch mode' (aka. vinyl on record players) ...

OK, if you wanna mix 80 - 130bpm then that is fucked, but 125 - 130bpm ... come on dude ... thats equivalent to plus/minus 4 on a turntable

For me the limitations of 'repitch' is something I have lived with for >15 years, and so I guess I am used to it, so sorry for sounding harsh ... I've just had a shitty day :-(

In fact, just ignore me ... you'll suss out what suits you in the end
