Ok, so I'm thinking of getting an Iphone, it is the holidays and hey why not? Anyho, whats the deal if you buy the phone off the apple site? I'm already on At&t so I'm pretty sure I can't get the upgrade deal or whatever. Just figured I would ask since there has to be somebody around here that just got an Iphone or what have you.

Originally you couldn't buy direct from Apple.

Last I heard was that they were hooking their systems in to the AT&T systems, so you could buy direct from them and they'd sign you up with an AT&T contract as part of the checkout process. The same with buying the phone in their stores.

Looks like they've done it as you can order through the Apple website now.

As you're an existing AT&T customer I think you're best option will be going to AT&T, either a store or over the phone and seeing what deal they can give you. I'm pretty certain upgrade charges depend on how long is left on your existing contract, but I could be wrong.

This does not help but I just bought my iPhone yesterday and it's one of the best purchases I have ever made!

I got mine at the AT&T store and also went along with a couple people that did the same thing. I already had AT&T and it took like maybe 5 minutes longer than buying something at any other store. In fact they didn't even ask any contractual questions, just asked for my cell number, punched a bunch of crap into their computer and it was done. I'm not sure if they started a new contract at point of purchase but I'm completely happy with AT&T anyway so don't have any issues on being with them for another 2 years.

Not sure if it is the same over there, but in Australia you can buy an iPhone from the Apple store and connect to either of two network suppliers. They will do all the paperwork and handover the phone in store.

I would recommend trying the Apple store because the service is so good. The network dealer stores here are dodgy IMO.
