Post by maten149 » Mon Dec 01, 2008 12:53 pm

I'm about to upgrade. Thinking about Asus P5Q Pro + quadcore.
Anybody using the ASUS MB w. Live ?

A friend of mine has got this board. He uses Cuubase and Live. Runs fine
for him.

I have myself a p5kc board, and i'm 100% happy with it. never run into a board
related prob for a year now (using also a q6600 with it).

I've had this setup for a 2 or 3months and experience many problems but it's hard to tell where they're coming from.
The main one though is:
I've bought this dodgy Line 6 UX 8 soundcard to bypass my desk to plugin directly in the card, and apparently there's an incompatibility with certain chipsets used on the P5Q, so check the forums of your soundcard to make sure there's no troubles.

I discussed the same topic with a friend of mine. Apparently, Asus MB don't use Texas Instruments Firewire chipsets. That might cause incompatibilities with soundcards. To solve that problem, you just have to buy a PCI Firewire adapter. If you browse forums like Gearslutz or even this one, I think you will find this piece of information.

I have this Mobo and Q6600

It has built in IRQ conflicts with the on board FW chip. I disabled the on board FW chip and installed a PCI FW card into slot 2 (not slot 1, also has conflict) as the only conflict is with the ethernet connection which I disable when using the machine for audio.

I am using an Alesis io/14 FW sound card and an M-Audio Fast Track USB. Both seem to be working fine.

I was advised that this Mobo is a bit finiky when trying to overclock. I have no personal experience with this so can't really comment.

I am using non Qualified Vendor Ram which is working fine.

As an aside, I am using Live 6LE. I had significant problems that are not fully sorted. I have narrowed the issues down to the nvidia video drivers and Live. Others on this forum have had similar issues. The problems do not exist when using Reaper. I have mucked around with it and seem to have it stable, but I am not confident yet. I have an Asus video card ready to go in and will test for stability.
