Ive been waiting patiently for years now, but still not a Clip Matrix Box in sight! Only the ever so expensive Monome which isnt easy to get hold of.
Trying to use my BCR for this, but theres only so much u can do with 2 buttons per track.

Is there really nothing else out there for firing of clips?

I could build my own, and i probably will some day. But right now, im busy with making music and sounds.

All i really need, is the layout of 8 rows, with a minimum 4 buttons each. Why is that so rare?

get a cheap USB keyboard where all the buttons are perfect squares. they make them for POS stations in stores. its not rare at all. or get some kind of video game controller.

I dont fancy touchscreen, and its too small imo.
some USB keyboard might be worth looking in to, IF the keys are backlit, and i can get some kind of lightening feedback going on, so i know what clips are playing etc.

There is obviously a demand for some kind of matrix controller out there. I would probably wait for the NAMM show, which is in January, and see if someone comes up with something. I mean, what is left over for classic hardware manufactures these days? Hardware synths? Hardware effects? Hardware consoles? The only field in which something is to gain these days, and where things are really just touching the surface is control uhmm... surfaces.....

There just aren't enough choices for the single most used MIDI input device in the world.

Ah NAMM... While I don't doubt that controllers will appear that will be supported by Live's incredibly flexible automapping protocol. I'm highly skeptical that a controller will appear that actually does something useful.

Although your post could be interpreted to have a little "nudge nudge, wink wink" in it and it would explain why my request for 2 little MIDI messages to make a grid controller without Max was denied.
And something is bound to come out of Ableton + Cycling.. Its been what? 2 Years?

I have actually an arduino here, and a working design for a 8x8 matrix, one color display. Been working on a multicolor, but seems its too much flickering going on when using RGB leds. Perhaps ill just build my own then..as planned.

gonna wait for NAMM first however, as i dont want to waste more time doing everything else, but music!
