I hear all the time that the top encoders on the BCR2000 are flimsy...

Is this because of the encoders themselves or could it be the way they are mounted?

I haven't been able to demo one as no one carries the item near me.

they're the same as all the others, except you can push them in, then they make a satisfying 'click' as they act as a button. rumors of their flimsy feel are exaggerated, IMO.

Agreed. I have three units with these knobs and they all continue to work just fine.

They're pretty good, I wonder where you heard it? Are you referring to wobble?

well, they do wobble a lot compared to the fixed ones, but seem fine. this might actually come in handy if you are into dubstep!

i remember one of the posts you are talking about. i think the dude dropped his BCR, then complained because a knob snapped off. keep it off the ground and you should be okay...

I never found them flimsy, plus their double function is really well thought out. I'd say for the money and what you can do with it its great

Is this a new color on audiomidi.com? Or an old pre-production shot?

The top push encoders are more flimsy than the the other 24 encoders, it's true.

I haven't had any problems with mine but I've only had it a few months. If you put it through some wear and tear and took it out on the road and such, I could see one of the top encoders coming off before the rest. But if you're careful I'm sure they stay just fine.

I do find just slightly annoying that the resistance is different between the top encoders and the reset. The top ones turn much more easily (because they feel a lot more loose), than the rest, which have more resistance to them.

But whatever, the thing cost 150 bucks.

I didnt know that the top row are buttons too !

Do they send a not on - off message ?
can you edit them to do latch control ?

Is anyone using these to get creative control of more parameters ?
maybe use the 'button' on the encoder to engage an effect
and then tweak it - then press again to turn the effect off ?

It would be cool to use the button to:
- engage an effect
- disengage and reset the effect to original position.

So you can push - tweak / push - back to normal / push - tweak from original setting again. and again.

you can set the push encoders to do all kinds of things, the entire BCR is
very configurable. don't know if you also knew that there are 4 banks of them, 32 push encoders! I don't use them that much because when I get into it my hands get heavy on the knobs and I sometimes push them in.

flimsy I would say not, my buddy dusty uses his at live gigs all the time and he really tweaks the shit out of that thing, he gets kinda agreesive on it even knocking off the knob caps sometimes while he's playing and he just picks them up later and pushes them back on and it works fine. although he's also busted knobs off before too but I'm just saying that it looks to me like it can take a mild beating.

I wouldn't drop it down stairs though.

I haven't read much stories on this board about them being flimsy, although I have seen stories of parameters randomly jumping possition. I had mine do this once or twice but it doesn't seem to be a continuing problem. it was probably a weird midi feedback signal I was messing with by accident.

i have a bcr2000. been about 4 months now. it's a steal for the price. but when you feel the knobs, you know where your money went. mine have all worked great with no probs. i never noticed the top row of knobs were slightly flimsy until after i read this post and checked. Having the top row of buttons is very convenient. I use the knobs for things like pan, and then a push on the knob will set it back to perfect 0. Also works great for solos.

It's not quite the build quality, it's the price and it's capabilities. It takes some getting used to programming. I haven't got the software editor to work properly yet. And I'm a little confused about some things like midi talk back. Being strictly a midi device, things can get complicated. I know ableton sends a dump to it, but I didn't like the way it was laid out. I haven't really gotten the transport controls to light on and off correctly yet either. In fact, if anyone can point me towards some info on this product, I'd be interested in knowing.
