I want LIVE to be Master and Logic to be Slave!!!

Abes...
Guys.. I know you could do this... I hope you could.. .
I want to be able to rewire Logic through Ableton!!!!
I know it isn't possible right now... but I only use live for my sequencing.. and it is such a pain i the ass to rewire to logic and just not intuitive.
My point being.. I would love to use logic instruments in Live with rewire and Live controlling Logic...
IS IT POSSIBLE? WHY ISN'T THIS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO? It is soo odd... that you can't do this.. because you guys make the software.. I would think if reason or something else can be slaved in Live... then logic could??
Maybe you can't get access to logics code to make this happen?? I don't know!!
I HATE USING LOGIC FOR ARRANGE...but love their instruments..
Oh well I guess we are stuck!!!

This is more of an issue with Logic and not Ableton.
Ableton functions as a Rewire master and slave.
Logic (and most other DAWs) usually just function as a Rewire master.
I don't own Logic though so I can't vote for that.

That is an Apple decision, they intentionally will not allow Logic to function as a ReWire slave. Their mentality is that Logic is a DAW with built-in instruments, as opposed to being an instrument with a built-in DAW. The Abes and a few others adopt the approach that "music is cool, music is fun, let's make it easier to make music", whereas Apple thinks you are all poo-poo heads if you don't think Logic is zomgthecoolestthingever (I'm not making that up, it's on page 234 of the manual).
As a licensee of the ReWire protocol they are free to implement it however they choose provided they don't alter the protocol itself.

I pretty much thought it was their choice... Oh well.... that's typical...

Well to be fair, at first Live had limited MIDI capabilities, no MIDI tracks, no ability to host vitrual instruments. It was just audio. In fact the only reason they were a master at all was Reason. So Logic, Digital Performer, Cubase/Nuendo, Sonar etc. all are incapable of being a rewire slave. It's no grand conspiracy on the part of Apple, and it's probably not that indicative of the Ableton attitude that they can, <--- debatable, but it was more that they HAD to be both slave and master pre version 4, than any higher standard I would bet.

workaround

miqeas1 I feel you big time. I would love to be able to have live as master... you guys may be interested in my workaround tho. I have begun basically writing my stuff in live with Mainstage running as a kind of multi channel module thru the mac internal midi port( on pc Hubi's loopback would do it). Both programs seem to run simultaneously thru my m-audio firewire 410 with no problems.
then when it's time to mix i export all my channels as seperate files from Live( this is really easy and quick) and each midi track as a seperate file. then i start a new song in Logic and bring everything in, setting up the same instruments that i had in Mainstage. Bit of a process, but its worth it to me 'cos i love being creative in live, and i love mixing in Logic(great fx and tools - autotune for example), and i get all the logic instruments i need.

In the Audio MIDI Setup utility, create an IAC bus to send the MIDI and Sync data. Then configure Live to send MTC and Beat Clock and Logic to receive it, then use Sound Flower to route audio between them.
Cheers,
Brian

so do i have to set up a multi instrument in the logic environment and connect it to each logic instrulent? the multi inst assigned to receive on the iac bus?
if so i can't find it
i just added a new iac bus, so i have 2 of them, neither are seen by logic pro, not in environment, not in midi sync prefs, both system and song settings. where am i going wrong?
what is soundflower? i've only ever used it for audio hijack cos it asked me to install it, never been further than that.
look is there a webpage on this stuff so you don't have to go to the bother of explaining all this to me yourself? i'm sure you're far too busy to do so but its too late now mate, i'm seriously interested.
yours, sleepless

You can use a Multi, but it might be easier to just create a single Instrument in the environment and select the IAC bus as the input port and then cable to each instrument track as needed.
Soundflower is freeware from Cycling 74. You can even create an aggregate device in AMS so you can use Soundflower and an Audio interface at the same time in Logic and/or Live...
MIDI prefs in Live to send sync info on an IAC bus, and Project Settings in Logic to receive sync...
Once you get this up and running, save as template : )
Positive experience using Live & Mainstage

Just wanted to confirm the positive experience stated here. I have been activating the IAC to be able to route MIDI form one application to another. Soundflower as an aggregate device. And you can then use Live and Mainstage side by side.
I suppose it works just as well with Logic, but Mainstage seems to be really light on CPU load.
It works really well for me. But I still need to do a full project from A to Z...
