Hi everyone!
I already searched the forums but couldn´t find anything on this.
I´m looking for a hint to achieve a bass sound like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ9mrJdZA8U
Is it a real bass guitar? A synth?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
ZAQ

Yup, that's real. Sounds like a p-bass in the rear pick-up position to di with a player who knows his stuff.

I must say that's a very authentic sounding oldschool riff, taken straight from the pages of Sly and the family Stone.

P-Basses do not have a pickup selector.

But yeah... this is definitely a player. However i have heard some of the better Bass samplers sounding similar. Play with a few a few bussed bass samples and be sure to include a very fast attack bass track in it.

But of course they can, and many do. Like mine

Is yours custom? Because P-Basses have a single coil split-pickup.

it's definitely a P with the tone knob at or close to 0. But I disagree with knot, I think it's neck pickup, not bridge.

I wasn't being literal about classic fenders only. I was including anything close to a wanna be p-bass. My ears ain't that good to be spotting stock fenders only. Anyway, sounds like a lot of bridge pick-up in said track. But yeah, i custom the crap outa my stuff.

@the woof. Sure, could be neck pickup with the player playing towards the bridge end.

+1 Dude chill the F out!

@ Aequitas123 if you've ever been to Austin you'd realize that's the most liberal part of that entire state.

NOT that ANY OF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT HE SAID!

And for the record she was a hot chick....

Now back on topic. Sounds to me like a P-Bass tone knob rolled back a bit to shave to highs with some nice compression played with fingers attached to a talaented bassist. IMO

Ampeg SVX can make some pretty convincing bass sounds.

ok guys, thanks already for your input.
I checked out the P-Bass on youtube, but so far havent really found any clips that sounded similar to this sound... there is some sort of groan in that sound I´m looking for that I really like.
I´ll have to try a real P-Bass these days, maybe with a little distortion.

cheers!
