It's not a German word a.f.a.i.k, so how did they come up with it?

Is it Able+to+'n' as in "able to do anything" written quasi-mathematically and er...in English obviously?

there was a 3rd member of Monolake who they no longer speak of. His name was Able (like the biblical Able, brother of Cain).

Able had a speech impediment and whenever Robert would tell him to turn the synths on. Able would respond.. T t.. .t .t .t. on.. so Robert and Gerhard started teasing him calling him Abletttt..t.t.ton.

This was all funny until the time that Able had a nasty accident when he was visiting the Beijing imperial shoe factory on a guided tourist tour during their first european tour. ..he fell into the showlace machine and was never to be seen again..

As homage, Robert and Gerhard named the newly developed software which they stole the source code from a nigerian programmer after Able... should i say Able t t .. t..ton.

well in person they pronounce it 'a bell ton'

the history from memory reads something like the monolake guys didnt find any programs that enabled them to perform live the way they wanted to.

so im guessing if u start breaking the name down u get..

"Able" (to enable, make possible)

"ton" - makes it sound like a device/machine.

so the name probably means that it's an "Enabling to perform kickass live shows" machine.

i thought it was the chaps name that created it?

Ton is Grrman for 'sound'.

Gerhard Behles has English roots. His mother comes from a long line of Ableton's.
