OT: I have just ended the most enslaving relationship ever

... it started a few years ago, when i first moved to the states as a young, impressionable man. She seduced me with her promises of cheap thrills and mindless entertainment with no strings attached. What I didn't know is that the passion would fade, and that there were indeed some very transparent yet strong strings attached. There was no way I could ever find a way to get rid of her. No matter how hard I tried to be evasive, my mailbox would get a monthly surprise from her. A sour reminder that she would be with me... forever. Or so I thought. Today... I finally realized... I can be free of her.
Yes, friends...
today I have finally....
received my last goddamn director's selection, my obligation has been met, and I have finally kicked Columbia House to the curb. No more scouring my inbox for director's selection notices to decline them. No more sending back crappy dvd's whenever a director's selection email slipped through the cracks unnoticed. No more settling for the occasional surprise semi-decent but overpriced dvd, just to meet the requirements. Such slavery has been a high emotional price to pay for the initially enticing offer of 50 cents per dvd. My obligations have now been met! NO MORE COLUMBIA HOUSE! Eureka! Today is a fine day

Columbia House?
Haha
When I was a teenager, I signed up for a few of those clubs, got my CDs, and never paid more than a few cents. They sent bills and those "free" gift CDs that I didn't even want, but I just returned them to the sender.
The letters stopped coming a few years later, and I haven't heard from them since. Got about 10 free CDs out of the deal. Never paid a dime... Well, a few pennies taped to the envelope, of course.

So you're
that guy!
The guy behind the "Last Remaining Subscriber To Columbia House Cancels Account, Causes Hundreds of Layoffs" news headline I read earlier.
Now that you selfishly couldn't accept your one damn movie a month my tax dollars are going further down the toilet.

Aww! Poor Columbia House! I feel terrible for her! Even blood sucking leeches need love too! You are so cruel!

Just be prepared for the onslaught of We want you back! communications with seductive deals.
I think I still get the odd one even though it's probably been 10 years since I dumped her.

Is this going to be the basis for the next bail out?

Have you seen a newer DVD lately that includes the heart wrenching infomercial on how your pirating is keeping the lighting guy from putting food on the table? Somehow the lighting guy from the 60's managed to put food on the table before the advent of video tapes and DVDs but that's for another discussion.
I don't see how the industry could have foreseen Nathan pushing them further off a cliff and therefore are equally deserving of a bailout.

Holy crap, could you even imagine if the government did a music industry bailout?! I'd go ballistic!

HA! I already got some. Like an evil case of VD, she comes back to haunt me no matter how far apart we are. DAMN YOU COLUMBIA!
