A few things Ableton should have. Some LONG overdue.
1. Crossfade / Overlapping clips
2. New Comping Features!!! Improvements to allow a choice between recent takes. New feature in new Sequencers...
3. Dual-Monitor Support
4. Integration with the new Synesthesia Mandala 2.0 (an amazing piece of gear).
5. THE ABILITY TO QUICKLY CONVERT A STEREO TRACK TO MONO W/O ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS!!!
6. A "beat detective" clone of sorts w/ optional integration with Session Drums.
7. ABILITY TO IMPORT VIDEO OTHER THAN .MOV!!!
8. Notation
9. De-esser
10. A TRUE multiband compressor.
11. OMF SUPPORT!!!!
12. ANY OTHER FEATURES THAT OTHER DAWS CURRENTLY HAVE HAD FOR A WHILE FOR THE SAME PRICE AS ABLETON!!!

I aree with a few of these. Namely:

Mulitple takes when recording clips would be quite handy.
I know that you can use utililty to convert stereo to mono, but it would be nice to have this action under a right-click.
But otherwise I disagree. I don't think "other DAWs have this feature so Live needs it" is a very good argument, and some features (notation) seem very un-Live-like. Also, I don't think it's a good use of Ableton's time to compete with the plugin manufacturers. If you need a de-esser or a multiband compressor you can (1) make one out of what's already there (Racks are your friend); or (2) get a third party plugin.
For me the main priority is more and more flexible modulations, of the "MIDI LFO" type.

All of these would be great features for me. I think you are right though in Ableton needing to catch up. But then again "catching up" in the sequencer world is a very slow process. They just need to focus more on where they are severely lacking in (but every user has a different opinion on where Live is lacking in):
So from that, I'd take out 6 definitely, Many DAWs still don't do this.
Fixing the 128 parameter automation issue and giving Live groove/swing quantize (maybe by use of a new midi plug-in) are the two most critical things to me. Better keybinding support would be next but they could focus specifically on things like making Record Quantize more easy to get to. Make it easier to type in clip lengths or better yet make it easy (key bindable) to determine default new clip lengths.
