Can't select Midi Ins or Out for TriggerFinger

I plug in my M-Audio TriggerFinger and the screen lights up. I start Ableton, open the Midi Preferences, choose TriggerFinger as the control surface. But the Input and Output says "None" and I can't figure out where to change it. Press pads, turn knobs, nothing happens or lights up. This is my first time trying to use Ableton with a midi controller so I haven't done this before. Any idea?

Hi,

A bit further down in Live's midi preferences window you need to select the TriggerFinger as an input device - probably enable both Track and Remote inputs. Try that...? It should then appear as an input in the control surface list at the top of the Midi Preferences window.

that menu doesn't show up. i went through the ableton tutorial and did a factory reset on the triggerfinger. i hope i didn't buy this damaged from ebay.

this is all i see with it plugged on. no factory preset seems to change things.

This has become even more frustrating. I tried to use the TriggerFinger with my friend's macbook and it worked without a problem. I think the error is that my macbook isn't receiving info from the TriggerFinger at all. Midi Monitor shows nothing even outside of Ableton. I guess I need to take this problem to M-Audio instead.

Is yours a brand new macbook? I've heard reports of problems with the USB on the new ones. Have you tried connecting to the TriggerFinger via a powered USB hub? Also, any drivers needed for the TriggerFinger? If so, are they all installed on your MacBook?

The Trigger Finger doesn't require drivers on the Mac.

@op - Definitely sounds like a USB issue. Does the USB port recognize other devices?

Not sure if it's related, but here's a recent thread with USB problems on a MBP: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?t=103316

I bought the macbook in September 2007. My Oxygen 8 works fine which makes this even more confusing. I'll look into this whole usb hub thing.
