i'm trying to warp a simple snare wav. The last hit always ends up sounding like a buzz roll no matter where I put the marker on it.

??

thx!

What are you looking for exactly...

let me try to be more clear...there are 8 single snare hits, but the last one doesn't sound like a single hit after placing the marker at the transient, it sounds like a buzz roll

do you know what a buzz roll on a snare is?

a screenshot of the warp would help.

the thing to remember is that when you're setting warp markers you're counting out the beat on top of the waveform. if it sounds weird, turn off warp, slow down the bpm, watch the waveform play and count out loud 1... 2... 3... 4... so you can see ahead of time where to put the '1' '2' '3' '4' markers.

also notice that there's an 'original bpm' box in clip view, with short samples that box can be wrong. hit the divide by two or multiply bey two buttons below it, or as you change warp markers it'll adjust, ignore it.

hth. warping makes sense, it's just a little odd starting out.

edit - you probably have the last section of your loop stretched out, it's a short period of time on the waveform marked out by a long period of time in the warp markers. eg a 1/4 note stretched out to a whole note.

ah, what you do is warp it so that it isn't the full bar, but sounds "right". then you turn the loop off and use a follow action to retrigger the loop on the bar.

Another approach is to drag the whole thing into arrangement view, select the clip and the following silence up to the bar and then hit Consolidate.

I could just use the 1st bar only, it sounds fine warped. But, i'm learning how to use this feature so I want to know what's wrong with the last beat of the 2nd bar

Consolidate worked perfectly, but when I drag it back to session view it doesn't play as it should (it gets off beat after looping cuz it's not a full 2 bars)

Silly question, is the warp mode set to complex?

If you are asking the warp engine to do too much, beats may not be sufficient. Have you tried complex? Complex should better handle drastic warps than beats. Let me know.

the last snare is too short - about a quarter shorter than the others.
you can see by looking at the waveform.

the simplest way to sort it is to set the Transients (below 'Beats') to 1/4. it will still affect the last hit, and the amount will vary depending on the master tempo, but it will reduce the 'stretch' sound a lot.

that did it. I did see that it was short at the end, but I thought LIVE would "deal" with that if I just placed the marker in the right place and made the whole thing 2 bars long with the end marker

thx again y'all!

I had a similar problem with a loop that I created the other night. I was getting that granular buzz effect from my global swing setting, which was accidently set to 99.
