Ok, i've already admitted that i'm an electronic musician and i like vintage synths because they are actually vintage. however i don't see the point of going to buy a brand new guitar that is beat to hell. that's the exact same reason that i don't shop at Abercrombie. why would i want to buy something that looks like it's been abused by somebody else. if you go buy a car, do you want a car that looks like it was in Katrina? didn't think so!!! somebody please explain to me why manufacturing a guitar that's had it's paint and finish chipped and peeled is a good idea! and secondly, why would you buy that? if you want a beat up guitar, beat it up yourself.

I had exactly 3 pairs of jeans each of which had fake wear and tear in the design, not really what I was looking for but I guess in fashion and that's what the store had available. I probably even paid more for these jeans than new looking jeans.
About a month ago all the fake rips and tears became real rips and holes on ALL 3 pairs. This pissed me off and they were no longer in style.
Maybe we can somehow connect this to the guitar rant.
Pay it forward.

Why, you ask? Because there are some guys who spend WAY too much time on forums and watching the boob tube who want to look like they are actually spending that time playing guitar.
Great bucks for the guitar makers, though, huh?

Its highly likely that it is fashionable. There was a time in the 90's when brand new high end furniture was built and then 'distressed' with a series of tools to make the piece look used. Kind of a cheap way of back dating the piece. Things that appear to be worn in often assume history, or stretching it...even soul.

That said, I just played one and they're brilliant. The worn neck adds a great deal to the playability. The neck profile is just right. The fret work is surprisingly good.
Not sure I could justify a grand on a Mexi strat but not buying a guitar that is that good because of its finishing might be as ridiculous as buying it because it is intentionally beat up. Damn, I really wanted to hate it.

You could buy an old Ibanez Blazer or a Starfield then you'd get a well used guitar for about 1/4 of the price

I'm holding out for a Roadworn Edition MacBook Pro featuring busted USB ports, 256k of very slow RAM, scratched screen, buzzing hard drive, missing keys and pre-Tiger software. Then I can really pretend I'm cool.
