and have a vst effect on them and tweak the effect via some controller knobs, are the tweaks suppose to get recorded into the midi sequence, cause I was tweaking a wah wah vst and during recording I could hear the tweaks but upon playing back the sequence the tweaks weren't there.

You need to arm the track for recording AND click on the Master Record button at the top. Then, when you playback and fiddle with the knobs, your automations are recorded.
