Is the upgrade free from Live 7 Suite to Live 8 Suite the same $259 as the regular Live 7 to Live 8 Suite pricing? Am I misunderstanding something? that doesn't seem fair to current Suite users at all. And I'm only saying this in the most humble way.

7 suite to 8 suite will cost less than 7 to 8 suite.

Hopefully the price will be similar to a regular (non suite) 7 to 8 upgrade. I know they are including some new devices in Live 8 Suite such as Collision which will add a little on the price.

Or at least, if there is a wider differential, they should offer a Suite upgrade equivalent cost to Live 7 to 8 (non suite) if you choose not to add the new devices. (ie get all the regular features of Live 8 but without the new instruments etc).

I've got Live 7 Suite download, my upgrade costs are 179€ to Live 8 Suite download.

Which is 30€ more than an upgrade to Live 8 download would cost me.

All prices for uprade depends on your ableton stuff you have. If you log in the main ableton-page (not forum), the abletons recognized your Serialnumbers off all, waht you have, L7, L7suite, Operator, Sampler and so on. Than you get your personal upgrade prices. That's the reason, that we all have different prices.

for us 7 suite owners, the standard upgrade (non suite) will not get you collision/corpus, latin drums, and the world class library, as they call it and (boxed) the eic2 and session drums (unless you had them from 7 suite boxed). but you will get operator 2, and will still have your original suite instruments. so you have to decide if the new stuff is worth the extra loot or not.

Live 7 Suite boxed to Live 8 Suite boxed.

My upgrade price for Live 7 Suite download to Live Suite 8 Boxed is €249.

I'm trying to figure out if EIC 2 and Session Drums are worth the extra €70.

also remember - the EIC/EIC2 and Session Drums require a lot of disk space for storage - like any other samples really, but if you're on lappy and space is tight something to think about.

I don't know if you can install them on an external drive or not. I have the Live 7 Suite download, as I didn't need nor could I spare the diskspace on the internal drive for Session Drums. (in case you're wondering, I got Live 6 boxed and therfore have the first EIC sounds there).

One good feature though is that you don't have to install all of the stuff. I don't have some EIC modules installed, just the sounds I am most likely to use. I'm pretty sure Session Drums is the same deal.

Yes- you can put everything on an external drive. I have a laptop with an external eSATA 1TB drive, and the external drive has all of my Ableton Live 7 Suite library stuff, Session Drums, etc. (and even copies of the installation disks) on it.

Btw, I found that running my external drive on the eSATA bus instead of the built-in 1394a (400 mbps) firewire is generally faster when running Ableton Live; disk benchmarks show it's about a third faster on disk reads. I haven't run any benchmarks on disk writes, but I think it's also somewhat faster than on the firewire bus. The eSATA would probably show an even larger performance increase above firewire, but my laptop is old (emachines M6809) and I'm running the eSATA adapter in a Cardbus (PCMCIA) slot.

I've upgraded to Live 7 (not the suite) yesterday. If I upgrade to Live 7 Suite (download), I must pay 319 USD and I eventually get Live 8 Suite for free. If I don't upgrade to Live 7 Suite and wait for Live 8 Suite, I can upgrade to it for 259 USD only. This means no one will buy Live 7 Suite now or I'm missing something.
