Not possible to "scrub" unwarped files in Session mode?

Hi.

A most annoying problem is that it's not possible to scrub unwarped files in Session mode. In Arrangement mode, it's working...... Meaning you can't jump to another startpoint unless the file is warped. Or? Am I missing something? Strange thing is that "Info" is telling me that it's possible, but no loudspeaker sign shows up like in Arrangement mode.

As a DJ, I also play a lot of beatless music as well as stuff that is not possible to warp.

Anyone?

Thanks.

Hi Current,

indeed, you can´t scrub unwarped clips, you can only change the clips start on the fly by CTRl-clicking in the grey area above the waveform, you have to re-launch the clip again, it will play from the new start marker.

Best,
Jörg

Hi and thanks, guess that helps.

Can I ask why this is possible in Arrangement but not Session mode? It´s obvious that in Session mode you usually use warped files, but when DJing i mixe in stuff that is not possible to warp, ambient stuff sound, effects, prog-rock etc.

Thanks.

Hi Current,

it´s specified this way. One other workaround would be to erase all warp markers but the first one and set the clip tempo to the song tempo - the file will be played back unwarped, you can loop and scrub as well.

Jörg

Jorg,

Is this ability to scrub an unwarped session clip a feature that we can expect to see in Live 8? I guess I don't fully grasp what you mean by "it's specified this way" -- does that mean that the product plan was written with this functionality defined in this way?

Regardless, I think for DJs that are not focused entirely on beatmatching electronic music within a narrow tempo range this lack of feature is a fairly serious limitation to Live as a tool for live settings. At a performance, the last thing I want to think about is whether I have erased all the warp markers on every track in my Library... In fact, I'd much prefer to have the flexibility in the moment to preview anywhere in a song in warped mode AND in unwarped mode...

Thanks,
Tom

Jorg, I'm grabbing this possibility to give this function a priority.

I have to agree with theys here, if it is in Live 8, I would not hesitate a minute to upgrade (or if it will be possible to get this into Live 8). Nothing would be better. Since it is possible in Arrange mode, I can't really see why it shouldn't be so in Session mode?

I have been "testing" the one mark warp and it's really confusing, because you have to change the track bpm all the time.

Thanks.

Hi,

It's not so easy to solve, technically, so it won't happen for Live 8. It's possible to scrub in Arranger, because scrubbing in Arranger means back/forwarding the transport. In Session though, forwarding the transport makes every other playing clip jump too, which is not what you want for sure.

In arranger, scrubbing an unwarped clip is only a shortcut to scrub the arranger itself.

So, this is a good item for the wishlist.

Amaury

Amaury,

Thanks for the clarification; I think I get the gist of what you're saying, though I'm guessing it must be some sort of software architecture issue at the root. Is it that putting a sample into Warp mode places some sort of shell on playback that doesn't exist when a sample is unwarped? I'm more curious than anything...

Anyway, I'll add to the wishlist!

Thanks again,
Tom
