I feel like it is.
"Presidency
Takes Its Toll
Bush Really Aged in Oval Office
See How Young He Looked in 2001"
of course that wasn't from the news exactly, it was from aol.com, but it seems to be symptomatic of the weather.
I started thinking about this after I watched that south park episode where earth turned out to be a reality television show for aliens.

When your living in a world, that has threats and danger from all corners, its best to stay informed.
The world is falling into several pieces, economically, politically, and environmentally....
Humanity has to wake up....
End violence. End hate. End climate change. End poverty. etc, etc...
Its no wonder the news is such big business. There's a lot to learn, a lot to understand, and a lot to worry about.......

I'm not talking about staying informed, I'm talking about how the news seems to be so sensationalized and dramatized and they love it when people have a fight. sounds exactly like reality television to me.
I imagine an anchor man saying "oh damn!! no he di ent" whenever I see them talking about a terrorist or something. and then I hear a little sienfeld bassline before the commercial in my head and we all think "it's crazy, all the trouble different people get into when you force them to live together isn't it?" studio laughter.

I've got bbc on my xmradio, I've listened to it once or twice. maybe I should some more.
I often feel like theres no point to paying attention anymore, I know thats a terrible way to view it but it just feels so pointless and out of control. Being informed isn't gonna change the world you know? but I know thats just the helplessness trying to settle in and I gotta fight that off with a stick.
