I havn't bothered upgrading my version of Live until recently and went from 7.0.2 to 7.0.14. All seemed fine at first, apart from when I want to create some new clips from my existing tracks.

Previously, I would add the track I wanted to create loops from to the session view and then create the loops I want and drag them back to the browser. This created a folder with an .alc file inside. I was then able to drag this file, back to the original location of the track. And this would mean that my loops and original track would be held in the same place, and all worked fine.

Since moving to 7.0.14 If I now do the same it seems to duplicate the audio in a samples folder. So that if I move the .alc file elsewhere it no longer works. Has anyone else found this? And if so is there a way around it? Seems like a massive step backwards to me, so inflexible now.

Anyone got any ideas?

in preferences there is a new (ish) setting called something like "save samples when creating clips : always / never / ask "

you want 'never' , but you should try "ask" just to see what else is saved.

just to clear up what this new(ish) method is for .
saving samples with your presets helps to make them portable to other machines. So, Sampler patches and Live clips can be saved as a nice collected package and you can shift them to your 'stage' machine quite swiftly.
Anyone who has ever tried moving presets from machine to machine under the old system will know the pain that used to cause.

I stick with the 'ask' option myself, just to remind myself what is happening under the hood.
