[ot] I broke my hip/leg

Saturday, I was coming down some icy steps and I slipped near the bottom. Feet went way up in the air then I went *slam* onto icy sidwalk at the bottom of the stairs, full force onto my hip. Broke my *femur* just below the part where that little arm comes up with the ball on the end.

The worst part is when you get to the hospital and they have to take x-rays, just awful.

Now i have a titanium spike in my leg and a coupla screws. I will be walking with either crutches, a walker or a cane for a while.

The Dr. said "hey don't worry, you are not like the elderly patient who never really recovers from this. You will be up walking in a couple of days." And I do see where today is much better than yerterday.

but damn it really hurts.

How inconvenient! :(

All the best for a speedy recovery, and no permanent loss of your favorite hip swinging motion :P

A WORD OF WARNING!

My dad did this. The surgeon used the pin method like yours. Unfortunately my dad knows better than a surgeon and walked without his crutches. He snapped his hip turning around. Now he has has a hip replacement. He'll need another in 6 years time .

That's why your a PATIENT. Good Luck

Bummer dude.

I myself am in a sling from a dislocated shoulder. Went snowboarding on thursday, third run at 9:45 in the morning I take a little path up on a ledge in a bowl through some trees, come out where there's a jump, but some stupid skier is not looking around and skiing right in front of the exit in front of the jump. So trying to avoid him I went off it wonky and did a minor wipe, sliding on my back. Nothing too crazy except that my shoulder came out of it's socket. I know the feeling I've done it before. So I'm stuck on my back and some lady sees me lying there's and yells "you alright?" "My shoulders out of socket" I reply. "Don't move I'll get someone" she says. But just as she says that, I manage to get it back in the socket and said "Don't worry, I got it in", and proceeded to board down to the bottom. But then it swells and you lose all strength in your arm. It becomes dead weight that you have to just keep tight to you to keep it in the loose socket. Day and season over.Won't be able to use my arm for a couple of months, and it'll take a year of physio to get it back to 90%. I know cause the last time this happened was 2 and a half years ago when i was bouncing on a trampoline a little too intoxicated.

Fuckin' blows.

Thanks all for the well wishes, good advice about not rushing it, don't want to experience this pain again that's for sure, also regarding the Arnica, I've done that before for sprains and it does do wonders.

g-b, sorry to hear about the shoulder. Some irony in my predicament, the reason I was going down the steps was to help get the rest of the family ready for a ski trip.

I had decided to forgo the outing, because I knew how icy the snow would be, and could get hurt :? 8O :)

well not to sound messed up, but your lucky you broke your leg which shouldnt affect your production. I work at a radio station doin production and then my own personal production I do at home, so one day like an ass skateboardin in Miami,FL rain, my wheels locked up, I fell broke my elbow, was wearin a cast from my knuckles to the midway point of my bicep. Soooooo....couldn't really do shit for weeks, good thing I can always use my left hand for OTHER things  when the harem isnt around lol.

get better mike

I did the same thing years ago snowbaording in a half pipe contest, I have to be careful of raising my arm too fast or it pops out now. Hurts, but at least you can pop it back in....

I'm sure you want to help Mike out to ease his pain. But please do not prescribe medication on a forum. Let the doctors do that, ok?

Mike, I wish you a speedy recovery... I am sure you'll spend this less mobile time laying down some tracks... maybe you should post here what you can do with a broken hip! :-)
