TRIGGER EFFECTS WITH NEW SCENE

I may be either asking for something that can't happen or being incredibly dense, but I'd like to be able to turn effects on or off when I go to a certain scene and I can't figure it out. For example: Scene 1 the lead has no echo / Scene 2 the lead has echo. I know I can automate it if I lay it down as a concrete song that starts at X and ends at Y, but I'd like to be able to do it in real time - loop Scene 1 as long as I want and then when I go to Scene 2 the echo comes on. I can kinda do it by using gates and control tracks to turn things on and off, but I'm hoping there's an easier, more reliable way. Thanks a lot.

The easiest thing for me along these lines is map the device on/off to a rack control, and automate that rack control. You can vary this technique a little with, for example, a utility with a mapped 'mute' button, a beat repeat with a mapped 'beat' button, a few things like that, which can be helpful as well.
A mapping like this can be mapped to a key or a button on a MIDI controller and functions like you would want it to, as a toggle on/off. To automate, simply set the rack macro to 127 and modulate between 0% / 100% in a clip envelope.

even easier: make two channels, one with effect - the other one without effect. put your clips into those channels accordingly (clip1 into channel 1; clip 2 into channel 2).

Yes, yes, yes...
Just to clarify this even further, "put your clips into those channels [AND THEREFORE SCENES] accordingly"

Automate the Delay "WET" amount inside the clip using clip automation.
