Plugin Parameters not displaying

On several of my 3rd party plugins, parameter display fields are not displaying the text correctly. Instead of listing the parameter, patch name, etc. It just shows a bunch of rectangular characters. In the web design world, this might indicate that the requested character doesn't exist in the font that you're trying to display. I'm on a Mac. Os 10.5.6 with Live 7.0.14. Any ideas?
