sound quality problem -- any ideas?

Hey All,

I'm importing some Garageband tracks to use as loops in Live -- software instruments that I played. They sound fine when they've been imported into iTunes (as AIF's). But when I open them up as clips in Live (imported through the Live browser) they sound like crap -- thin and warbly -- basically unusable. These are most string sounds, violins and the like.

Here's what I'm using:
iMac G5 (powermac)
GB 2.02
Ableton Live 6.10

Can anybody hazard a guess as to what's messing up here?

Thanks,
radiofreeken

if youre imorting the aifs into live check to see if live is warping these clips automatically, making them sound "strange".
double click the clip, in the sample box there will be a yellow tab that reads "warp".
click it so it turns warping off, or keep it on... change the warp mode... warp how you like, etc.

if thats not the case, im not quite sure whats going on.

If you are using groove/swing make sure you set the clip to straight mode, otherwise it will get stretched to get this groove/swing. Had something similar with vocals and thought the singer was crap because it sounded strange and he/she was clearly out of sync.... while the real reason was "swing 8"
