How do i Automate Reason From within Live?

Probably easy, but i can't seem to find the answer through searching.

I'd dearly love to buy the Ableton Suite to get at all those cool Synths, but as i already own Reason 4, it's hard to justify the extra expense.

So for now, i'm using Reason 4 rewired as a rack of 'external synths', & using Live for making the tunes.

All works very well, the only thing i wish to be able to do, is automate something simple like a Subtractor Filter control, from within the Live Arrange page.

To make a filter sweep currently, I have to use Reasons sequencer to do it.

Is there a solution?

thanks

x

Perhaps you can simply sen midi to your device in Reason (thats possible in Live I think?), and use just normal midi-controls to automate, like cc7 for Volume oder something like that? (just an idea)

Ah yes, not bad...i don't have my Keyboard here to try until tomorrow unfortunately. Is there any way to select cc data on the automation line for an external instrument, if none has been written yet?

"In Live, I can control/automate any parameter on any Reason device in Live. In other words, say I have a Subtractor loaded in Reason. All I have to do is assign a midi track in Live to Subtractor. Once I do that, I can go the midi track and find a list of all of Subtractor's knobs and sliders in the envelope window. Then I can draw in an envelope for whatever parameter I want to automate. If I want to turn up the frequency on Fitler 1, I can find Filter 1 on the midi track in Live that is dedicated to the Subtractor, and draw in an envelope to turn it up. Every parameter on Subtractor's GUI is listed in the envelope section in Live, so that I don't have to use Reason's sequencer for anything."

i found this answer when googling

maybe its the same as with cc data? you cant draw cc data in arrangement lanes but you can find a list of the cc's in the envelopes portion in the clip itself.

another cool thing with reason + live is the external instrument device... you can save reason presets in the live browser (assuming the corresponding reason device is running in it's proper state within the reason environment, i.e. through appropriate rewire outputs, when the preset is called)
