[4629] Contextual menu -accidental clicks more likely

(OSX)
When I right-click, usually in waveform preview where there are many options, it is very easy to accidentally select one of the options instantly.

ie - when I let go of the right-click, it might select "Fixed Grid 8 Bars" because I happened to be moving the mouse slightly. It means I have to slow down my workflow to insure I dont accidentally select something when I right-click.

This is a problem which doesn't happen in Live 7 so I guess its a "bug".

Maybe the solution is to only accept left-clicks in contextual menus, or to make the contextual menu appear a little further right along the X axis.

Cheers.

I've also reported this. When you click on a menu and there happens to be a menuitem under your mouse, it gets selected. Live seems to assume you click-and-hold, but this wasn't the case in Live 7 and the new way seems a bit more awkward. I hope it's a bug and not a new design.

This one should be fixed with Live 8.0b13. Please verify.

Not fixed. Happens less often, but still happens quite easily.

All I have to be doing is slightly moving the mouse to the right, or upper-right, as I right-click.

"Draw Mode" and "Stretch Notes" are the biggest offenders.

I'm not sure if I understand that completely.
Are you using a zoom factor > 100%?

I've been using zoom 100% mostly, but it can happen at different zoom levels. I think the people it is most likely to affect, are those who like to work fast.

The problem is that *releasing* (mouseup) the right-click can trigger one of the menu items.

Personally, rather than hold down the right-click and then release it on my menu item of choice, I tap the right-click (hit and release), then I left-click on the menu item I choose, and I would be confident that most Live users do the same.

My solution is still:
Maybe the solution is to only accept left-clicks in contextual menus, or to make the contextual menu appear a little further right along the X axis.
or you could put a 500ms delay before it responds.

Or indeed have contextual menus ONLY accept initial clicks (mousedown) and not mouse releases (mouseup)

It's not a huge problem, but it is kinda frustrating to have to slow down my workflow (if even for 2 seconds) every time I want to do a right-click. I could live without this fixed, but I thought it should be brought to your attention.

no menu in the universe should accept a mouse button release. that's dumb

I don't get it. When a context menu comes up, it is not under your mouse, but next to it. Can you describe what exactly you are doing so that there happens to be a menu item under your mouse?

The mouse behaviour of our context menus is standard behaviour that is the same in all applications: you can either right-click and immediately release the mouse button, in which case the menu stays open and you select menu items with left mouse-down; or you right-click and hold (drag), in which case you select menu items with the right mouse-up. It works the same in the Finder, for instance.

Also, I'm not aware that anything changed in this behaviour between Live 7 and Live 8.

What am I missing?

Hi!

In certain conditions (couldn't replicate), the menu appeared under the mouse cursor so that when you clicked the button, your cursor was immediately on one of the menuitems.

Also, few betas ago, you had to hold the mouse button down to have the menu visible. With these two things together, when you clicked an item that opened a list and it appeared under your mouse cursor and you released the button, the menuitem got selected immediately.

I would need to make a video to explain what I mean, but the drop down -menus seem to stay visible in b14 even if you release the mouse button, so this isn't a problem anymore. And I think the menu appearing under the mouse cursor was somehow related to the but where drop down menus appeared in incorrect places with zoom levels != 100%, but this is also fixed.

I'll report, if this happens again, but I don't think it will.

Hi,

The bug discussed here is fixed for a while now, so I moved the thread. Please open a new one if you still experience problems with context menu.
