Ok , i'va had it , they are working on it , BUT i hate betas.
we need rock solid tools to perform live with Live (computers in general) and not to be a beta testers guinea pigs for another 10 years!

I think we need to run a real Live test of MOTU 828 +OSX here.
Please post your test results of Live/MOTU/OSX here.
I start with myself:
IMac G4/800Mhz (Flat panel) internal harddrive/
Live 1.5/
OS 10.1.5 :
sound dropouts with MOTU 828.

who's next?

same here...

Live 1.52 in OSX 10.1.5
iBook 600
Motu 828

Dropouts like crazy, even in situations that wouldn't have caused any stress at all under OS9.

Powerbook G4 400 with OS X 10.1.5

It works fine with the built-in audio, but when you choose CoreAudio / MOTU 828, sound drops out all the time. The beta driver works ok in other programs.
I just hope the people at MOTU are testing Live like crazy.
Because as someone put it, I hate having this $700 doorstop here.

If anyone has anything new please post it here!!!

Ableton or MOTU?

Seems that everyone is having sound problems in OS X with Live.
Is this a Ableton or MOTU problem?
I believe that if its Ableton's than they will be coming up with an update pretty soon as hey always did, but if it's a MOTU's problem than we all could just forget it ... since they let us wait years for a small udate.

I'm sure its the 828 drivers.
Till motu came out with the 2.1 828 drivers, the 828 was dropping out like crazy (with Live) and did not work right in Logic. The soundmanager drivers worked fine.

This will probably be the last Motu item I buy. They update drivers as often as we get snow in the San Francisco bay area. =)

Ableton, what do you say?

Regarding the Motu 828 OS X drivers, Ableton what do you say? Is it an Ableton or a Motu-problem and do you have any news about how and when this is going to get solved?

909: I thought everyone was happy with their MOTUs. I never heard anything bad about them. I even liked DP although I don't use it. So now you're saying the take ages to update their drivers... is that true for betas too?

Hello together,

I tested the 828 OS X beta driver on a 733Mhz G4 with more or less the same result. Until 50% cpu usage it seems to work ok but over 50% there are some dropouts every 10-20sec.

I tried it also with Reason 2.0 with better results. Here it works until 60/70%.

We try to find out why the handling in reason seems to be better (mabye it's because Reason must not reading audiofiles from the disk in realtime)

I would also like to know which other OS X software you're used to test the beta driver. I know Reason, Spark, Live.....Is there still something else on the OS X side?

regards,
Alex

Alex:
I haven't had any trouble with Reason. But I don't play Reason for extensive lengths of time. So maybe Reason has problems too.

Now I'm playing mp3s through the MOTU 828 (using MacAmp Lite and iTunes) and I'm having dropouts every 5 or 10 minutes.

In Live, I rarely go beyond 30% cpu usage, but I still get dropouts. There are no more dropouts if I use 60% cpu.

[ I'm writing to [email protected] now just to let them know about this, in case they don't. ]
