I'd really like to be able to record a live band with their natural feel and tempo (or more accurately, tempi), but then be able to get the tracks aligned to a bar/beat grid with the tempo indicator being updated accordingly. it takes some work, but you can do this in Pro Tools with their Beat Detective feature.

Working to the click from the get-go makes everything so much more sterile and constrained. I'd really like to record the full band, or even just a scratch track to get the feel right, first, then have some way to get it back onto a grid, so that I can easily repeat, delete or copy/paste bars, quantize bits of performances or nudge notes to the beat for better accuracy, etc.

I often wish there was something like that available for the PC. Seems like Ableton would be an obvious contender to have an 'audio quantize' function.

I would like to see an audio quantizer that can treat multi track drums without altering the phase relationship of the tracks to each other. Whatever I've tried, this is where I loose the sparkle and immediacy of the sound. I'm sure Ableton can do it better than anyone else given it's focus on groove and timestretching. Now with 'Elastique', it seems an obvious feature to develop.
